one of my free hcs is that makoto and haru were pokemon kids (makoto was into it first and got haru into it) and rin wasnt a pokemon kid but after s1 he slowly started to notice haru and makoto play or talk about pokemon and start to get into it himself while pretending its DEFINETELY not bc haru and makoto play it and he wants to play with them
anyway fast forward to DTTF/FS era and im imagining a scene where all three are hanging out together with their DSs pressed together (because its the late 2000s) to trade pokemon
rin doesnt name his pokemon and haru doesnt name them either EXCEPT for every bird or duck-adjacent pokemon which is iwatobi-chan 1 iwatobi-chan 2 iwatobi-chan 3 iwatobi-chan 4
rin takes one peek at makoto's DS while his back is turned and spends the rest of the day holding back tears because makoto named his pokemon after his friends and has a sharpedo named rin a charizard named rin and a single tiny little eevee named rin
