I often ask myself what I'm doing and where I'm going

As if my subconscious has all the answers to these questions

Some days I feed into procrastination and find everything boring

Other days I seek out conflict and think everything a transgression

I long for the discipline I once had back when I was a cop-to be

When I had a deeply rooted purpose driving me without end

It was a simpler time, I was so different, one could clearly see

But life has quite a way of circling back around to mend

And one day I woke up to feel renewed like a phoenix reborn

It drew forth from deep within, from a place I thought long gone

I was ecstatic over this glorious new feeling for I was no longer torn

Every moment felt so invigorating, every challenge so perfectly drawn

My gratitude is boundless; I see no reason to complain or wallow

We grow strongest when in the petrifying presence of life's difficulties

Every little step and every leaping bound, pulls us further from sorrow

Once that perspective shifts, even the worst things seem like vanities

I feel like a new man today and it's something so nostalgic

Nothing seems to fuel me more than testing trials and making good

Because I'm tired of living my life in a fashion akin to automatic
