#make it better

It's been a while since I've read this, like, the last time I read this was around 2021 I think so a lot of the details are rough for me. I didn't ENJOY it either so naturally the details didn't stick. I'm not sure if I can address this question as well as I would like and I am not re-reading it.

I do remember liking the premise of a place for healing for heroes because it's not often the comics EVER touch on mental health and when they do it's often handled badly.

The entire structure of The Sanctuary for example really doesn't fill me with any confidence that it would be an effective place for healing. People having to walk around in robes hiding their identity (for safety) to me more feels like it's stigmatizing mental health.

BUT it was written by Tom King so what can you expect?

I feel like the question of heroes in a mental crisis could be a very compelling story and one that arguably NEEDS to be told but I think the level of care to execute it while STILL telling a story is something beyond Tom fucking King. It also can't be riddled with therapy speak and talking down to the audience otherwise that's an abomination no one would want to read.

Queer it up with New Gods having a vastly different perspective of sex, gender, and relationships. Have them be routinely polyamorous and irreverently pansexual. Have marriage mean something entirely different for a New God from New Genesis than it does in the USA. I'd like to see them depicted as very much alien to humanity in their practices and even design.

I'd also like explorations of Apokolips as well beyond "It's a hellscape and a hyperviolent authoritarian state", we have seen glimpses of Apokolips having culture, mysteries, lost remnants of an older age and even groups within that are unique to what we've seen.

Look, I love Stargate. I want new Stargate. I also want it to be good. But it needs to learn from the past. We need to be loud now if we want women/diverse writers. I don’t want the old boys club still doing all the writing!
