Ok guys, so I’m impulsive and I cut my hair.
Why is this so important to me? Because I’ve wanted a haircut like this for years and my parents won’t let me. I’ve tried many times to pull it back and make it look like I cut it, but it just didn’t cut it (heh, get it?). When I did pull it back, I felt empowered and like I could kick some serious ass, which is not something I usually feel.
So, yesterday I had enough. So in a spurt of determination, i snipped off the left side of my hair.
My mom just found out, and after explaining to her that I felt empowered in the cut, she said “you need to cut off the rest of your hair.” After asking why, she said, “because that’s a silly haircut.” She also asked why I felt empowered, and why I needed to be empowered. Is it such a bad thing to have a haircut that makes me feel good?
This is something that pisses me off. Kids find something they’re passionate about, something they enjoy or something they want, and parents IMMEDIATELY shut them down. They tell them that it’s silly or not worth the time to have a hobby or that the haircut they want is weird, or that they’re too young to make their own decisions. It’s starting to piss me off because without making mistakes, how is a kid gunna grow?
I’m sick of it. I love my haircut, but my heart sank when my mom told me this. Parents, stop shutting your kids down. Unless they’re about to do drugs or some shit, don’t deny them their choices. They deserve to learn and grow from their mistakes.
