Magic Library Encounters
These “monsters” populated a Wizarding University library. I honestly can’t remember if I made the tome up or found it. Other potential library encounters included a lost research student, a Gelatinous Cube who acted as official library cleaner, a discarded backpack containing spell scrolls and a cloak, and a lizard stuck inside a ring of Magic Missile.

Book swarm
A swarm of flitting, angry magic tomes
The swarm can occupy another creature’s space and vice versa, and the swarm can move through any opening large enough for a book. The swarm can’t regain hit points or gain temporary hit points.

You are misinterpreting our works -- "Death of the author" would mean something different to a seer who communes with ghosts through books (Ken Frank, AD&D 2e Dungeon Master Guide Sages & Specialists, TSR, 1996)
Dressed for success in summoning demons (Tom Baxa for "Resourceful Sorcery" by Michael DeWolfe, Dragon 132, April 1988)
