Does anyone else think about the implications of the canon events of the TDAS finale? As much as I will ALWAYS stand by the reset button and everything after being fake, I have taken a liking to actually thinking about what happens to Mike if that is the case. take this snippet of mine from a conversation I had. People were asking about the threat levels of each contestant should there be a new season, and they were going off of 'reset button happened' logic. "he inherited traits from all his other alters, correct? vito's strength, svetlana's athleticism, manitoba's wilderness survival skills holds out hands. vito's cockiness and lack of care for anything other than the girls. the gender confusion that would come with svetlana. manitoba's sexism and also ego. mal's apathy and sadism and penchance for manipulation. and all the pure, unfiltered, unseparated trauma and memories that his brain split off for a reason coming crashing right down. if he gets parts of everything, he gets parts of everything and we also see how he kinda loses it to the point off dropping a giant rock on his head when his alters initially stop appearing. he's fundamentally changed significantly as a person in ways that are profoundly unpredictable and extreme if you think about it. he's a mess. he's no longer meek, shy mike trying his best to keep his disorder under wraps. he's a mishmash of all his intergrated alters and pure unfiltered trauma he wasnt ready for and we know full well their traits weren't always desirable separate let alone unexpectedly shoved into one guy who was nowhere near prepared for this. I personally think if he appeared again he'd crash and burn, but id still put him as wildcard as we dont actually know fully what hes like and how he manages canonically. he seems to be on a high in the aftermath of the finale, thinking he got all the cool abilities and personality traits yet if he got those its only reasonable to assume he got the less beneficial ones too, on top of everything in his head kept separated by dissociative barriers which are now completely broken. no one thinks about this but me istg 'oh mike got rid of his alters and got their cool abilities' think about the consequences that would have to occur this is a cartoon but its not idealistic fantasy land where only good ever occurs, if he gets the reset button and disorder is gone and its stated his alters' qualities integrate? think about what that would actually mean, not just the most fun beneficial parts. i mean, he sure as hell aint thinking about all this while hes riding on the high from a win and unable to process the implications yet bc he's a teenager that absorbed qualities from a bunch of overconfident egomaniacs in his head. mike post tdas youd have to deal with chester's temper, vito and manitoba's flirtatious behaviors, mani's sexism, mal's EVERYTHING. and merge that into one guy that is consistently shown to compulsively lie to an extent that could definitely qualify as disordered. sure he's got charm and charisma now but how far would that actually pull a certainly also far more unstable him in another season. or pull him in life as a whole." does anyone else think about the implications that button and the everything is integrated thing have. even if you disregard it as non canon it is inherently super interesting to think about.
The period of ‘bad’ total drama seasons (revenge of the island, all stars, pahkitew island) make a whole lot more sense when you look at them through the lens of ‘in this universe this is the show and chris is the main writer and producer and director here and written based on chris’s ideas and tastes’ rather than ‘this is a show written to be a show for us’ if that makes sense? Like obviously theyre intended to be appealing to us, but them being as they are settles much better if you treat them as chris’s project for the audiences in their universe, and their ‘quality degradation’ to us is reflective of chris’s changing tastes and mental state and priorities in universe
post world tour chris is noticeably different to world tour chris and before (though he has changed alot throughout all the seasons) but that placement is the biggest divide
The show gets progressively more insane and fast paced as chris gets more and more fixated on drama and ratings along with his progressing sadism and tendency to get bored faster. The show’s everything is reflective of Chris. Notice how the reboot seasons are alot more chill, while chris is also mellowed out significantly from these seasons?
this is just a random thought brought to you by a neurodivergent idiot that just binged nearly this entire thing in the span of a week.
tldr try viewing the seasons of total drama through the eye of ‘this is what chris is giving to the audience in his universe and is more reflective of him than anything else’ rather than ‘the irl writers are making this for us’ . everything has made alot more sense to me when I’ve done this. And everything has been more enjoyable too.
how did the notion that mike is BORING and LAME and USELESS and has LITERALLY NOTHING INTERESTING GOING ON BESIDES HIS DISORDER get so fucking popular it pisses me right off. what do you mean he's a perfect guy with nothing going on. how is a compulsive liar thats living in constant denial and doing his best to constantly repress and reject anything perceived as wrong with him and fake that hes normal, get perceived as.. lame and boring by such a huge part of the community.. did we watch the same show. wait, did you actually fall for his shotty at best ploy to appear normal and good. (alot of mike criticism reduces him to soft uwu perfect victim type shit from what ive seen in td spaces. makes him the nicest guy with nothing wrong with him ever, as if he isn't again. a compulsive liar that refuses to address anything wrong with him and constantly others his alters and treats them as nothing but inconveniences and burdens while he goes on the stupid im just a method actor with nothing wrong with me trust im a normal guy please believe im a normal guy. he's traumatised and messy and no one fucking gets it ever. why is it so normalised to be so blatantly wrong about a guy. none of this is even inference its literally his character in show. please give him flaws. please portray him as messy and selfish and a control freak and an anxious/paranoid compulsive liar that would rather pin the blame on his alters than address any negatives about himself and his issues more.)

CONTROVERSIAL ZOKE OPINION!!! (actually an in depth study)
Zoey and Mike.. likely wouldn’t last together. (And if they did, it certainly wouldn’t be all sweet and flowers and unicorns.)
End of grand chef auto - Mike states that he has well. The disorder he has, and Zoey seems accepting! But I doubt either of them fully grasp what Mike’s issues actively mean for something long term, especially post allstars.
(There are two paths post TDAS, either the button is fake, which I lean towards, or Mike gets aspects from all his alters. Both endings wouldnt be good for long term relations,)
First: Mike keeps his DID, keeps all his alters. Zoey’s accepting, what’s the issue?
- Just because Zoey is nice and accepting doesn’t mean she’s prepared. Prepared to actually deal with the struggles of this disorder day to day, from the alters and their behaviours to the amnesia and well dissociation to the elephant in the room, the traumas. Is she even aware of what Mike’s disorder is caused by?
- and on that note, the other issues severe, repeated, childhood trauma bring. Mike definitely has other issues that are comorbid, from his severe anxiety to his disorder level compulsive lying habits to most definite PTSD and any other problems the other alters have.
- The other alters are their whole thing, honestly. From mild annoyances to them not seeing her as mike sees her to irritating behaviour quirks like vito’s flirtatiousness with others, or outright dangerous and severely distressing ones like Mal and his whole everything with the apathy, the sadism, the hatred, the purposefully driving others away and always being on the attack.
Zoey is 100% not equipped to deal with Mike. Even if shes supportive and forces herself to keep trying, it really isnt fair on her to expect her to be able to know what to do and tolerate every little quirk and situation, she’s just a teenager herself who has little to no experience in relationships let alone in one with a guy with problems she can go i love you no matter what to but she doesn’t actually understand the implications of or have the ability to tolerate.
(And in the event of reset button worked, Mike getting traits from all his alters would include their negative traits AND all the trauma that mike’s brain separated off from him for a reason and we know mike struggles without them anyways. That’s literally why he dropped the rock on his head.)
Basically, its good in theory and theyre cute and supportive but I can easily see them having to split off the romance for safety and because Zoey is just woefully unprepared and it sucks but I just honestly cant see them lasting, between her not getting it and mike also not getting his disorders either. I love them as a pair but realistically post allstars them wouldnt last, and if it did, it would be a mess of trying and failing to manage untreated mental illness in a way that is fundamentally unrealistic and unfair to expect a teen like Zoey to be able to do, and unfair to put Mike in a committment like that when hes got a hell of a long road of therapy ahead.
I dont think zoey would ditch his ass and leave him out to dry completely lol no but i can see them having long discussions about Everything and realising its likely not going to work out the way they want but theyre still friends they just, cant be together, not romantically and not in the same household, not until atleast they both grow and do their research and mike gets proper help and therapy so it isnt just him relying on her and cam instead of proper professionals and what have you.
Also for the whole them not lasting, its also a fact that most teen romances dont last, especially not ones forged on competition shows. This isnt a slight on either of them, or the ship as a whole, of course!
