Drawing is effectively one of the only creative activities that I am actively bad at.
That being said, I want to get better. So I'm going to start drawing on a semi-regular basis. And maybe posting them here.
I am drawing for myself. I am not looking for praise. I do not expect anyone to look at this.
I think I am going to do a collection based off of The Magnus Archives because I love the details of each episode. Each statement creates an image for me.
So here's my drawing for MAG 1 Angler Fish.
I really like the details I incorporated. Specially, I think the light has quite clean lines and reflects the references I used for it.
If I were to change something, I would put the figure lower. I think that as it is, it's very obviously floating which is less unsettling and changes the vibe.
Overall, I like the drawing more than I did while drawing it but less than the image in my mind.

listening to my first actual run-through of tma i am full of spoilers
i just finished MAG 12 i might make this a reblog chain on my side account just with my reactions and guesses for horror(s) are represented after each episode so here are my thoughts so far
MAG 1 - strong start, definitely tells me what kinda ride i’m in for. absolutely adore the little michael The Door foreshadowing at the end. i originally thought this was a stranger one, but it’s probably a spiral the more i think about it.
MAG 2 - the second i heard the word “money,” i immediately went “buried” and wouldn’t you know it, i was right.
MAG 3 - graham got stranger-ed guess he’s not!graham now. i get beholder/eye vibes from the story itself, though, like she had to know what was happening to him.
MAG 4 - VAST VAST VAST first indications of mike!! and gerry is there too, i guess, hi gerry.
MAG 5 - lots of things but honestly?? eye. the teeth freaked me out, though.
MAG 6 - no comment, just grossed out, corruption is terrifying to me.
MAG 7 - ok, this one seems like something i’d write. it’s so cool, i love it so much, the piper is such a vibe, it’s gonna be so hard to draw, definitely end or slaughter.
MAG 8 - classic desolation episode, more ghosts and fire please.
MAG 9 - original thought was slaughter, but now i’m thinking dark. love that robert’s just a dad trying to look out for this daughter, even though he’s a mass murderer, more of this dynamic in media.
MAG 10 - vampires read as hunt to me, loved the description of the tongue being more like a leeches than a humans, really sets the vibe.
MAG 11 - prophetic dreams are so fun, i don’t care how overused they are. originally thought eye or desolation, but it was revealed to me that this is an end episode. thanks google, i just wanted a reference for the veins, i didn’t need the fandom wiki for oliver banks.
MAG 12 - desolationnnnn liminal hospital setting is such a good place for a desolation episode, also gerry’s here i guess. hi gerry, thanks for letting me know that your eye tattoos are not just a collective fandom thing, you’re gonna make practicing anatomy a lot harder.

Ahhhh anglerfish <3 It’s been pointed out many times, but I find it so fun how the title is relevant to the episode, but also symbolic of Jon getting lured into the archive. I do appreciate that the first 3 episodes all have circumstances that could lead to the statements being easily dismissed (ppl being under the influence of substances or head trauma) to kind of “ease” the listener into the idea of things being For Real, rather than tossing us into it headlong. In retrospect though, its pretty funny having Jon still completely belittle the story after the investigation turns up some pretty damning evidence.
The whole….. idk .. ending episode twist / mic drop that is typical of many tma episodes feels rather silly / over the top in this one. It definitely gets better, but the “And There Were Cigarettes In His Pocket AND Check Out This Photo AND Most Of The Disappearances Were Confirmed Smokers” was …. a lot.
Is that what would become known as “the eye static” on the tail ends of “Can I have a cigarette?” It would be fun if it is! But its completely plausible that its unintentional considering this is the first ep. Could have just been intended as general “spooky sound design”

Spring's Review:
A good solid intro episode! The little segment at the beginning introducing Jon and mentioning his team is pretty iconic for a reason, you get a strong grasp of Jon being a hashtag Skeptic, and the beginning of his opinions of at least Martin and Gertrude. There’s just enough info that pulls you into the character and the world, even if you’re just expecting an anthology series. It’s a shame we won’t get much else for like 10 episodes.
I’m gonna try to avoid being long winded but largely my opinion of the earlier seasons is that they’re very slow, which works very well and makes sense. You’re slowly being lowered into the story and horror as time goes, kinda frog boiled in it. But on relistens it can feel annoyingly slow. That isn’t much of a problem with this one since it’s the first episode, but I wanna mention it now early on so I don’t say it Every episode of the earlier seasons.
I do not care for Sarah Baldwin.
I don’t think she’s like an important character but I find it a little weird to hope people remember a random name among 6 others in a group (with 4 main characters also being name dropped in this episode) from the First episode, up until how ever it takes for the name to reoccur. Obviously it worked better as the episodes were coming out when people were analyzing things much closer.
Also I like that the name of the episode is a “horror” twist on the usual Pilot, it’s an angler fish, it Luring you into the series.
Also also, the horror mic drop. Crow asked about this as we write these reviews and it’s like, the end statement final little twist/reveal that kinda goes ooooo it reeaaaal. A LOT of the statements do this, and it makes sense as a final little pseudo-cliffhanger stinger w/e, but it’s a little cheesy in retrospect.
