Princess Visenya Targaryen, known as The Lost Princess, was the daughter of Prince Aemon Targaryen and Lady Jocelyn Baratheon. She was married to Prince Daemon Targaryen of House Targaryen. She was a dragon rider whose dragon was Moonfyre.

Appearance and character

Visenya was a great beauty, much like her mother and sister. But unlike her mother and sister, she inherited the Valyrian looks with long silver-gold hair and violet eyes. At twenty, she reached six feet tall, surpassing even her mother in height and had a natural regal presence.

She was clever and spirited like many of her house but she was also kind. This kindness was never to be considered a weakness, she was fiercely independent with a fiery temper.

Unlike other dragon riders, Visenya did not wear armour when she took her mount; instead, she rode in King Landings' best silks.

History

Early life

Visenya was born in 80 AC on the 25th day of the 5th moon of the year. As the second child and second daughter of the Prince of Dragonstone, she was second in line to the Iron Throne after her sister Rhaenys. King Jaehaehrys I, when presented with his granddaughter, called her 'The Realm's Joy'.

Visenya became a dragonrider in 93 AC when she claimed the dragon Moonfyre, a previously unclaimed dragon. In 101 AC, as his first act as Hand of the King, Otto Hightower secured a match between Ser Tymond Lannister of Casterly Rock and the Princess Visenya to settle growing disagreement between the houses.

On the eve of the 7th day of the 12th moon of the year 101 AC, the day before her wedding ceremony, Visenya was seen flying out of the dragon pit atop Moonfyre, into the clouds and away from King's Landing, where she would not be seen again for fifteen years. Thus earning her the nickname 'The Lost Princess'.

The Lost Princess

What occurred during these lost years is forgotten to the trappings of time, although many have speculated, most notably Mushroom in 'The testimony of Mushroom', Septon Eustace, and Grand Maester Munkun.

All that is known for certain is that in 116 AC the Princess returned to King's Landing on Moonfyre accompanied by Prince Daemon on Caraxes. It was soon pronounced to the realm that the pair had married in the way of the old Gods. After King Viserys publicly proclaimed and legitimised the marriage, Prince Daemon left King's Landing and swiftly returned with two young children. A son named Viserys was believed to have been born in the 12th moon of 115 AC, and a daughter named Vaella was born a month before their return to King's Landing. Rumours flooded the kingdom about the proximity of Viserys' birth to the untimely death of Prince Daemon's first wife, the Lady Rhea Royce. King Viserys paid these rumours no mind and declared his nephew and niece, Prince and Princess, respectively.
