1. What is the biggest headcanon deviation from the canon material that you have incorporated into the way you write your muse? Why did you come up with it?
The most obvious deviation from canon is him outright knowing what happened to his mother involving the poison by the time he first showed up in the series. It could be either way in canon and many theorize that he was instead told by James at the end of Detective’s Nocturne.
The reason for this has to do with his reactions to both Ai and Conan and so readily accepting that the latter has a good deductive mind despite looking like a seven year old. He instantly recognized Ai as being Shiho shrunken down when he got a look at her face, despite how we do have a baseline of normal reactions based off of every other character in the series.
Only someone already familiar with the poison’s effects being able to work on humans (something Shiho didn’t learn until several years after Rye was burned) react in that way of instant recognition. Everyone else, even childhood friends, require constant observation of mannerisms and behavior to come to the conclusion that something happened.
5. What is an aspect of your muse’s canon material or canon existence that you never had the opportunity to explore but really want to?
I really haven’t had a chance to dig at the dynamics between him and his colleagues and some of his family (simply because there aren’t any Jodie, Camel, James, Kir, or Shuukichi RPers).
I’d like to got deeper into the psychological effects of all of this on him. After all, you don’t become the guy who works directly under Gin in the Organization by not killing people. Undercover agents, especially long-term ones, have baggage due to leading a double life. Nobody can compartmentalize that sort of thing that well.
Even as Subaru, that has got to be affecting him, even if most people would consider it more benign since he isn’t generally out shooting people or breaking peoples’ legs. I was taking shots of him from the Clash of Red and Black for icons and, as Shuichi and working on a case, he seems actually quite happy while he works.
Surprisingly, Dimensional Sniper incorporates that, since the only time he really grins in the film from what I recall is when he draws blood. A similar thing shows up during the Bell Tree Train affair. He grins are when he scares Ai away for their plan to work properly, when his sister subconsciously recognizes him, and when he shows up with a grenade.
