some says that kevin's character development would have been pointless if it wasn't sophie but let me just say that change should ALWAYS and ultimately be driven by our want to be better individuals for ourselves first. kev is one of my fave characters and i think part of why im really disappointed is how they made it look like he's not capable of change if not for sophie.

the writers obviously didn't want to let go of a story line they had years ago even if the whole story now suggests otherwise. sad and annoyed by how they gave kevin lots of moments thinking and really wishing for a complete family (his ultimate dream) only to not give it to him. that hurts.

Because their story was true, I know this for a fact.

Because there was, and is, love between them.

Because they always knew how to communicate, understand each other, accept each other and never judge each other.

Because if Kevin is the man he is today... the credit goes only to Madison and to the family they have built.

Here I am, trying to explain to people that don't want to understand Kevison's storyline.

The way Kevin and Madison found each other is the epitome of what the show is telling us since the pilot. How a stranger can become such a big part of your story, how life doesn't always take the route you imagined, but sometimes it can surprise you and give you something better than what you wanted. The writers told us more than once that Madison is Kevin's stranger and this is in fact their journey: they are going from strangers to lovers.

Another thing is that Kevin has an idealised view of what love is supposed to be. For his entire life he tried to replicate his parents' love story, he kept forcing love to the point that he thought he found "the one" in that woman he met at the bar and he even didn't know, he chased the perfect fairy tale love story thinking that love at first sight was the only valid type of love. This obsession made him being so blind that he never realised that the right person, Madison, has always been right in front of him. As soon as he saw her at Kate's wedding he was obviously physically attracted by her, but then he ended up judging her in the wrong way even before he had the chance to really know her. And Kate did the same mistake before she became Madison's best friend. And that's something that happens very often in real life too: we judge people by appearances.

Also, there's a reason why we keep seeing adult Sophie. The writers compared the relationship that Kevin has with Sophie, with the relationship he has with alcohol. Because that's what it is: Kevin tends to drown himself in alcohol when things get complicated and he does the same with Sophie. She represents a fantasy where Kevin can run to and drown himself into when things get too deep or too complicated because that's a relationship where he feels like he doesn't need to put in so much work and where he can pretend to be someone he is not.

Madison instead balances him out, as he said by himself, she makes him want to be a better person and to work for their relationship, preferring facts over big speeches full of empty words. Kevin wants Madison, but he also knows that he has an addict personality so he had to delate Sophie's number to get rid of any temptation.

In s4 ep. 12 Jack clearly said to Kevin that even if in that moment he was said cause he lost something he loved, it will come a day when he'll find something else to love, because that's how life works! Kevin loved Sophie but not to the point to consider her enough for him. And in fact young Kevin tells Randall that he is lucky to have Beth, cause she is his everything and clearly he didn't feel the same about Sophie.

The writers decided to give him an unconventional love story as a fulfillment of his character development. To make him realise that there's no such thing like a perfect fairy tale love story because life itself isn't perfect, and it doesn't matter if he fell in love with Madison only after she got pregnant, it doesn't matter if the start of their love story isn't fairy tale like, the only thing that matters is the journey.

Both Madison and Kevin know that they won't never know if they would have get together without this unexpected pregnancy, but it doesn't matter because again... *spoiler alert* that's life.
