My family was never a “lake” family. I can count on one hand-not even using all the fingers-how many times I remember going to the lake growing up. Sure, we splashed around in ponds or stock tanks, but never an actual lake. That might have been due to the fact that we lived nowhere near one.
Anyway, now, I have a “lake” family, or rather, I married into one! Ty’s Stelting grandparents have an awesome home near Lake Texoma, and every chance we’ve had this summer, we’ve gone to the lake. (It’s only been twice so far, but we’re working on more!)
Tucker and Ty wading in Lake McMurtry near Stillwater–we have to find somewhere else to lake it up when we can’t be at Texoma!
The first time we took Tucker to Lake Texoma was over Mother’s Day weekend. First, we met Mom and the rest of the fam in Leoti for a Mother’s Day lunch and then we made the long trip to Stillwater. We discovered a new station on Pandora (Red Hot Chili Peppers or “Spirit in the Sky”) which made the trip a little more bearable!
Then, we went through Shawnee and Ty’s dad treated us to lunch at Long John Silver’s. It’s always really special to be able to hang out with Ty’s dad!
Then we made our way down to the lake, where Ty’s grandparents took Tucker and me on our very first pontoon ride:
And yes, those are cornrows! I’m so glad Tucker likes them and that I get to practice my french braiding!
We also got to go fishing….
Of course, Ty and Tucker both caught a fish. I didn’t. :(
And feel the wind on our toes…
The lake was a little muddy from all the rain, and the water a little cold, but the sun was nice and warm. :)
Taking a picture with these goof balls is impossible.
And figure out where I’m going to start my new life!
Of course the best part was spending time with family and enjoying the beautiful scenery.
Sunset over the dock at the lake.
The next time we went, we had another visitor in tow: Bec!!!! Aka, THE CUTEST PUPPY EVER TO HOP ALONG THIS EARTH!
I can’t even begin to tell you how cute this dog is and it definitely doesn’t do him justice. Unfortunately, when we first got him he was covered in fleas. The fleas were so bad he had scabs, and we could clearly see the bugs crawling over his face.We also discovered that he had hook worms and round worms (intestinal parasites). Poor puppy.
It took several dish-soap baths and a trip to the vet, but we finally got him healthy and happy, just in time to give him to Tucker, who, like Ty and me, quickly fell in love.
Initially, we’d planned on giving Tucker one of Papi’s puppies. Yup. You read that right; we’re grandparents! Our next door neighbor’s dog became pregnant with Papi seeds, and before the puppies were born I’d asked her if I could have one, but she decided to go back on her word and keep the puppy, so we ended up with Bec. (She moved out. Bec is adorable. But I’m still mad about the lying. People should have more integrity than they do nowadays.)
The little black one is Papi’s.
We all went on a trip down to the lake, and you cannot imagine the amount of pictures that were taken of Bec!
We didn’t get to go out on the boat because it was too hot and windy, but we had a good time anyway. We ate plenty of good food (great peanut butter fudge made by Ty’s grandma, and good Asian food in Madill), watched TV, showed Bec off to the neighbors, napped like we were puppies, swam, bounced on trampolines IN the lake (I’ll have to ask Ty for pictures) and overall just had a really great time.
This weekend Ty and I are going to celebrate the Fourth of July with them, and it should be loads of fun. A post will be coming about that. (Spoiler: it will include a golf cart parade!)
Thanks for reading. :) When you’re done, head to a lake near you and soak up the sun!
Lake times really are the best time. Especially when they're shared with special people. My family was never a "lake" family. I can count on one hand-not even using all the fingers-how many times I remember going to the lake growing up.
