technically speaking, my mad!Ben IS NOT the mad!Ben we see in omniverse, because i'm pretty sure in that everyone knew he was Earth's overlord (or whatever my idiot son called himself), but for plot reasons(TM) in my mad!timeline, even though Ben IS doing a lot of the dirty work and enjoys being a tyrant, he's doing Vilgax and Maltruant's bidding (willingly☝️ he's their -disposable- protege) and the people don't recognize HIM as Earth's overlord and don't really single him out from Vilgax' other high ranking officers, like whatever, he's just another one of Vilgax' commanders it doesn't matter they all torture us da saaaaaame🙄 (rip to my pawn of a son, his ego would not survive that blow💔)
ANYWAYS, Vilgax gets killed by the #Resistance(TM) and Maltruant's coward ass hops dimensions and this timeline's Rook betrays Ben last minute and cuffs his Omnitrix, but let's him get away because he's got complicated feelings about him (Rook hates Ben but he's also been his servant for so long, but he also treated him like shit but sometimes he didn't, and Rook knows he probably SHOULD be killed for everything he's done but he doesn't want him to be GONE gone even though he lowkey wants to kill him himself so on and so forth)
Months after these events, the resistance is still looking for Vilgax' last commander (Ben) because they want to kill him because he stayed loyal to him. By this point, Rook is part of said resistance (though i guess they no longer are a resistance? think of a proto-plumbers, they wanna rebuild the world as a better place, whateverrrrr🙄❤️) and finds Ben hiding during one of their missions to survey a new area. Rook is hit with his complicated feelings(TM) again but Ben is NOT cooperating with him and so Rook has to lie and convince the resistance leader that this is just a fellow former servant who's still spewing propaganda because they had to be loyal or risk getting killed when Vilgax was alive and Ben is probably just like,, still brainwashed by allat-- so the resistance leader agrees to take Ben with them (and to not kill him) but Ben is rowdy and a liiiiiittle too loyal and proud about having served Vilgax (Ben was probably just talking about himself but aside from Rook, they don't realize this lmao) so they determine he's probably dangerous and they put him in a cell somewhere, chained 😇👍
For a while, Rook tries taking care of him and convincing him of just playing the part and letting go of the past and taking the chance to be a new person in the new world but Ben ABSOLUTELY refuses to. Eventually Rook get's frustrated and loses it because Ben refuses to eat and Rook feels like it's unfair that even in these conditions, Ben is still trying to have the upper hand and control how things go. Anyway, so Rook berates him and starts losing it a little too much so the resistance leader has to walk him off the premises (lol) until he calms down. After he goes back to see Ben, he's passed out and Rook gets worried that he's dying and convinces the resistance leader to let him take Ben out of the cell
After that a bunch of redemption arc shit happens, idk, imagine whatever u want, but Ben slooooooowly builds empathy and a moral compass (yayy❤️) so he starts getting reaaaaaal guilty about the shit he did WHILE ALSO being a bitch about having to confront it, he basically starts to have a lot of internal conflict about having to take accountability but also wanting the world to just give him a clean slate, all the while nobody even knows he did allat (cause nobody but Rook knows he was actually Vilgax' protege) and he should probably say smth about it but if he tells on himself they'll probably kill him and he probably deserves it but he doesnt want to die despite everything
Anyway, more stuff i havent thought about happens, things are slowly getting better, Ben is feeling more and more like a person with a right to his new life until some incident happens and initially they (their fellow resistance members) think it was Ben's fault, and nobody really blames him (essentially just think of it as an unfortunate accident that nobody could have prevented) EXCEPT for Rook, who initially suspects Ben did it on purpose. Ben has suspicions of this and confronts him and they have a big fight where Rook admits he did think Ben did it on purpose and that he wishes he didn't but he can't help it cause he can't just forget who Ben is and the things he did. He leaves Ben on his own and this is when Ben cuts his Omnitrix arm off :°] because he has a tantrum and lowkey agrees with Rook and sometimes feels like he'd become a tyrant again if the circumstances allowed it
Ben almost dies of blood loss, is saved by the grace of me wanting my yaoi really bad, and gets berated by Rook for it because he thinks Ben was trying to make him feel guilty for having valid doubts about him still, until Ben tells him he cut his arm because he was afraid one day he'd be able to unlock the cuff and that he wants Rook to get rid of the Omnitrix. The resistance leader finds out Ben is the commander they were looking for but by this point the power of love and plot armor is too strong and instead of killing them, she just makes Rook promise NO ONE will ever find out about who Ben is, or else😇 (for the both of them, Ben for being a piece of shit coward former tyrant and Rook for lying to them and robbing her of the beautiful opportunity of killing Ben when she still thought of him as nothing but a piece of shit)
Everything after that is basically (reformed)mad!benrook slop (yayy❤️ love wins💕❤️❤️)
SO, if we're talking of Ben pre Vilgax' death, he's an arrogant insufferable cruel piece of shit, he likes getting his way with everything and he deeply enjoys that nobody can do anything to stop him from doing so
if it's in the middle of his redemption(TM) arc then he's a sorry ass dog who does not like knowing his actions have consequences
if it's him after being reformed, i think he'd have a lot of swinging between himself pre and post Vilgax' death, like at times he'll still have this mean arrogant streak where he treats ppl like shit and then he feels bad about it and starts spiraling, and sometimes he's really self assured and others he's soooooo so small and needs Rook to be his emotional support animal essentially :°]
do u think gwen & kevin would anticipate benrook becoming a thing or would they be surprised

prime! i think they'd be a little surprised and probably worried for Rook since Ben doesn't have the best track record of being a good boyfriend, maybe even a little opposed, I think they'd try to talk some sense into Rook hshshs
mad! doesn't have a Gwen or a Kevin so no opinions there,, but if it's pre Vilgax death, it would mean nothing to either him or Maltruant, no such a thing as "dating" your servants, you're just doing whatever you want with them "which is what servants are for" ((❌️horrible horrible wretched way to think NEVER think this way❌️)) AND if we are at reformed(TM) point, i think their fellow resistance members wouldn't be necessarily surprised about it, i think everyone already had a sense these two had some sort of situationship going on (in that au they also share a room so,,)
fist! i think they'd be a little surprised at first, like it never crossed their minds that Ben would actually date anyone, after that i think they'd really enjoy teasing him, but in general i think they'd be happy for the both of them
unit! they would be surprised and oppose it entirely, since all the info they have about Rook and the way he interacts with Ben is a list of red flags hshshs though it would mostly be unconfirmed suspicions because i don't think unit!br would ever ~officially~ start dating and Gwen and Kevin also don't live in Bellwood so it's easier (for Ben) to avoid saying anything about it
