Thanks for the compliments. And yeah, it’s a strange thing to have happened—thank God it’s not a literal transformation (which I understood after “Fleet of the Strongest Women” and that one Frontier episode), but it’s so unusual a tack.
I’ve stayed cheerful about Neo-Exsedol for years, but not enough to save my reputation—if I had any. It’s cute that a character who looks like a B-Movie monster is a good guy, but that’s missing all the good character beats, and in context the change comes off as depressing even if it’s not a literal in-story transformation.
Like, getting flown around by his head when he has to leave Battle 7 is a downer. Funny thing is, I have some M7 concept art that shows him smiling instead.
I’m honestly curious about the reason behind Neo-Exsedol, (and Neo-Britai but he didn’t get a new show) but all we get are the answers that there is no “real” Macross and continuity is fluid but—why this guy?
