Went onto AO3 and was very disappointed when I searched up M:I with the Theatre AU tag with zero turnout
The order of movies I got back into M:I with is so funny because I went from Rouge Nation, to M:I 3, to Rouge Nation again, to Ghost protocol, to Fallout, to Dead Reckoning, to The Final Reckoning, all the way back to M:I, and now im watching M:I 2 (which ive avoided because I remembered virtually nothing about it)

Benthan LOTR AU!
Pretty self explanatory, it’s just the Lord of the Rings but with M:I characters instead. Mainly created because I wanted to draw Ethan and Benji as hobbits and I fucking love Samfro <3
I couldn’t figure out a way the rest of TFR cast (+Ilsa because f her death) fit into existing roles of LOTR characters, apart from Luther being Gandalf (Voice of reason + cool ass dude. Also again, f his death), The Entity being both Sauron and The One Ring, and Gabriel being Gollum (-the Ethan feeling sympathetic towards him/relating to him).
All the characters are characterized the way they are in the actual Mission: Impossible franchise.
The Entity being the One Ring, instead of turning the wearer invisible, provides infinite knowledge to the user, however warps the user’s reality in the process. Ethan was chosen to carry it to Mount Doom because of his strong will. Benji, being Sam, does end up wearing it a few times to rescue Ethan from threats, but overall stays strong due to his loyalty and knowledge on the subject.
Ethan, like Frodo, does succumb to the Ring at the point of near destruction, so angst of that will be coming soon :)
