Smith & Wesson M&P 5.7 and the Rugged Oculus: A Suppressed Rimfire-Like Experience with Centerfire Performance
The firearms industry is constantly introducing new calibers and innovative handgun designs, but every once in a while a platform comes along that genuinely feels different from everything else on the range. The Smith & Wesson M&P 5.7, available from Brownells, is one of those firearms. Combining the high-velocity 5.7x28mm cartridge with Smith & Wesson's proven M&P ergonomics, the pistol offers a shooting experience that is unlike most traditional handguns. When paired with a suppressor like the Rugged Oculus, the result is a remarkably enjoyable combination that blends minimal recoil, impressive accuracy, and an incredibly fun shooting experience.
At first glance, the M&P 5.7 looks familiar to anyone who has handled a modern M&P pistol. The grip angle, controls, and overall ergonomics feel instantly recognizable. However, beneath the surface, the pistol incorporates a unique operating system specifically designed around the 5.7x28 cartridge. Smith & Wesson's Tempo Barrel System helps manage the cartridge's pressure while maintaining reliability and shootability. The result is a pistol that feels surprisingly soft and easy to control despite the high velocity associated with the 5.7 round.
One of the first things shooters notice when firing the M&P 5.7 is how little recoil it generates. Compared to many 9mm handguns, the recoil impulse feels exceptionally light and smooth. The pistol tracks well during rapid fire, allowing shooters to maintain sight picture and deliver fast follow-up shots with ease. This characteristic alone makes the platform appealing for range use, training, and recreational shooting.
Where the pistol becomes even more interesting is when a suppressor enters the equation. The Rugged Oculus is primarily known as a .22 LR suppressor, but it is also rated for certain 5.7x28 applications. Pairing the Oculus with the M&P 5.7 creates a shooting experience that many shooters find surprisingly addictive. While the 5.7 cartridge remains supersonic with most factory loads, the suppressor dramatically reduces muzzle blast and softens the overall report.
The combination creates a unique sensation on the range. Instead of the sharp muzzle blast commonly associated with centerfire handguns, the suppressed M&P 5.7 produces a much more controlled and pleasant shooting experience. While it won't be as quiet as a suppressed .22 LR firing subsonic ammunition, it is significantly more comfortable than many traditional centerfire pistol setups. The reduced blast allows shooters to focus more on accuracy, target transitions, and simply enjoying time behind the trigger.
Another area where the M&P 5.7 excels is magazine capacity. The pistol offers generous capacity while maintaining a surprisingly slim grip profile. Smith & Wesson did an excellent job designing a handgun that feels comfortable in the hand despite accommodating a substantial number of rounds. For shooters accustomed to double-stack 9mm pistols, the M&P 5.7 manages to feel both familiar and innovative at the same time.
Accuracy has also been impressive. The combination of low recoil, quality sights, and the inherently flat-shooting nature of the 5.7 cartridge allows shooters to achieve excellent results at a variety of distances. Whether engaging steel targets, shooting paper, or simply enjoying a range day, the pistol inspires confidence and rewards good shooting fundamentals.
The Rugged Oculus complements this accuracy-focused nature by maintaining a lightweight and compact profile. Adding a suppressor often changes the balance of a handgun, but the Oculus keeps the setup manageable and easy to handle. This allows the shooter to retain much of the pistol's natural balance while enjoying the benefits of suppressed shooting.
Reliability is always a concern when discussing suppressors and semi-automatic firearms, but the M&P 5.7 has demonstrated excellent performance in this area. The pistol continues to cycle smoothly while suppressed, making it an enjoyable platform for extended range sessions. The combination feels refined and well-suited for shooters who appreciate modern firearm technology.
One of the most appealing aspects of this setup is simply how much fun it is to shoot. The M&P 5.7 already offers a unique shooting experience thanks to its cartridge and operating system. Adding the Rugged Oculus enhances that experience by reducing blast and creating a smoother overall package. It is the kind of firearm combination that encourages shooters to stay at the range longer and burn through more ammunition simply because of how enjoyable it is.
Brownells continues to be a trusted source for firearms, suppressors, accessories, and supporting gear, making it easy for enthusiasts to build setups like this one. Whether you're interested in exploring the 5.7 cartridge for the first time or looking for a suppressor host that offers something different from the typical 9mm pistol, the M&P 5.7 deserves serious consideration.

Would Doflamingo force Y/n's and Rosinante's son to become the next Corazon? Also, would Y/n get a say in this matter?
I'd imagine she'd be opposed to it for obvious reasons, but I also wouldn't be surprised if Doflamingo ignored parental consent. He does not have a good track record for respecting other people's autonomy.
Yep, he'd be making the kid become his next Corazon lol and does not care what Y/N thinks about it
The reputation of Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 magazines as some of the most capable .22 LR magazines comes from a combination of thoughtful engineering, practical dimensions, adaptable design, and cost-effective construction. When evaluating rimfire magazines—especially for the notoriously finicky .22 Long Rifle cartridge—these factors matter more than raw capacity alone.
To understand their advantage, it helps to begin with how they are built and what they are made from. Factory M&P15-22 magazines are constructed primarily from high-strength polymer, a material choice that aligns with the rifle itself, which also uses polymer receivers to reduce weight and cost. This polymer is engineered to provide a balance between rigidity and flexibility. The rigidity ensures that feed lips maintain proper cartridge alignment, while slight flexibility helps absorb stress during repeated loading cycles. Compared to traditional steel .22 LR magazines, polymer construction also resists corrosion and keeps overall weight low, which becomes noticeable when carrying multiple loaded magazines.
In terms of dimensions, these magazines are designed to mimic the external size and profile of standard AR-15 magazines. A typical 25-round version is roughly comparable in length to a standard 30-round 5.56 NATO magazine, allowing it to fit standard magazine pouches and gear setups. This dimensional compatibility is a major advantage because it allows shooters to train with realistic ergonomics. Internally, however, the magazine is specifically engineered for the smaller .22 LR cartridge, maintaining proper stacking geometry to reduce rimlock, a common issue with rimmed ammunition. The overall length is approximately 7.5 inches, with a width and thickness similar to a standard AR magazine, ensuring compatibility with most magazine carriers and accessories.
Versatility is another area where these magazines stand out. They are available in multiple capacities, including 10-round and 25-round variants, making them adaptable for different legal environments and shooting applications. Beyond capacity, the magazines are designed specifically for the M&P15-22 platform but are often used in AR-style .22 LR training setups due to their reliable feeding and last-round bolt hold-open functionality. This makes them particularly useful for shooters who want to replicate centerfire rifle handling at a lower cost. Their design also includes a load-assist button along the side, allowing users to pull down the follower for easier loading, which is especially helpful when dealing with rimfire cartridges that can be difficult to stack by hand.
Durability, while sometimes debated in enthusiast communities, is generally strong for a rimfire magazine in this category. The polymer body resists dents and deformation better than thin metal magazines, and the internal spring and follower system is designed to handle repeated cycling. The feed lips, often a weak point in many rimfire magazines, are reinforced as part of the molded body, reducing the likelihood of bending or spreading over time. While heavy use can eventually lead to wear, particularly in high-round-count training scenarios, the magazines typically maintain consistent performance over thousands of rounds when properly maintained.
Value is arguably one of the strongest reasons these magazines are often considered superior. With typical prices in the mid-range for firearm magazines, they offer a combination of capacity, reliability, and training utility that is difficult to match. The relatively low cost of .22 LR ammunition, combined with these magazines, makes high-volume practice far more affordable than centerfire alternatives. This economic advantage is part of the broader design philosophy of the M&P15-22 platform, which was created as a low-cost training analog to AR-15 rifles.
Finally, their overall design integrates user-friendly features that directly address the quirks of rimfire ammunition. The follower system is tuned for consistent feeding, and the magazine geometry minimizes common issues like nose-diving or rimlock. Combined with their AR-style external dimensions and lightweight polymer construction, these magazines strike a balance between realism and practicality that many competing .22 LR magazines fail to achieve.
In sum, M&P15-22 magazines are considered superior not because they are flawless, but because they successfully combine proper dimensions, adaptable capacity, durable materials, and strong value into a cohesive design. For shooters seeking a reliable and affordable rimfire magazine that closely mirrors centerfire handling, they remain one of the most practical choices available.

I have a question, if doflamingo and rosinante were to meet reader earlier, (like if they were childhood friends) would things have changed between of how rosi and doffy would've viewed the reader??
Hmm, well if this is for M&P, Reader lived in Marineford her entire life so if both Rosi & Doffy got picked up by Sengoku & Tsuru they'd be childhood friends with Reader. Doffy would be competitive but also have a tiny crush, meanwhile Rosi would be shy.
And then they'd grow into giants and become marines while Reader is a translator and they'd always walk together to Marineford HQ with the brothers on each side by Reader.
It would be a throuple eventually I just feel the romantic feelings would come one way or another.
I just think whichever way you spin it the relationship would evolve from friendship to romance once they're grown up.

Your fic rec list just made me think about M & P and how the oyster scene from that one chapter lives rent free in my mind. 🧎♀️🤦♀️ Idk I just needed to tell you how peak it was, can't wait for the next update whenever it drops 🫶
I love that the Oyster Scene™ lives rent-free in your head, anon! Everything becomes so not-innocent with Doffy doesn't it 🤭🤭🤭
The most recent update is Chapter 8 posted on January! 👍🏻
I feel terrible that I won't make it to update M&P by the end of February (26th February today) when it's THE month of love considering Valentine's! Please forgive me 😭🙏🏻
It's bcs to me, this next part of the chapter (Chapter 9) is so boooring 🤣🤣 but myb cus I know the plot of it, haha 🤣
I haven't very much outlined Law's relationship with Rosinante's crew in the fic (he has met them before and knows all of them) but unfortunately, I think Law's trust issues with the marines & adults overall will keep him from sharing the information. The only marine he trusts is Cora because Cora truly proved himself over and over again to him.
In fact, I think Law might use the fact he HAS that information of Vergo to his advantage... He'll have his own way of doing things, and won't really seek to ally himself too tightly with the marines - he's free to do whatever he wants, and Wulf will respect that decision because Reader probably told him such and he knows that was Rosinante's wish.
I'm not going to go full AU by making Vergo be found out, even if it would be SATISFYING. I want to keep it canon where Law slices Vergo and entire SAD room in half with Doflamingo listening. Now THAT was satisfying. Shut Doflamingo right up. And if the entire Punk Hazard Arc happens in M&P scenery, Law takes the snail and says, “Say hi to Cora-san’s wife for me. Later, Joker.” then cuts the snail to pieces.
