A BC Supreme Court justice ruled the evidence that a train sparked the devastating fire is sufficient for a trial.
Lytton residents will have their class-action lawsuit against Canada’s two major railway companies heard in the B.C. Supreme Court, thanks partly to new evidence of high brake temperatures on a train passing through the community shortly before the town burned. The news comes almost 4 1/2 years after a fire on June 30, 2021, levelled 90 per cent of the village’s buildings and killed two residents. In a decision issued Tuesday, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Ward Branch agreed to certify a class-action lawsuit brought by residents against Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway.

The small village of Lytton in British Columbia hit the global media when it smashed Canada's highest temperature ever recorded in June 2021, at 49.6 degrees centigrade. Two days later, the entire village had burned to the ground. In the ashes of their homes, this cohesive but diverse community which includes a majority of First Nations residents had to confront the realities of climate displacement by being relocated away from their ancestral lands. Through the stories of three main protagonists we find a community searching for answers while relying on a collective spirit to heal. The Guardian

Hello friends. With the heatwave moving through western North America this past week, you might've heard news of the British Columbian town, Lytton, which broke the record for the highest ever reported temperatures in Canada for three days in a row.
That town is now on fire.

So a small town in British Columbia literally burst into flames over the week due to the catastrophic heatwave that smothered the province.
The town of Lytton is gone. All of it. All of the houses, the supermarket, the police station, it's all gone. Residents had to flee in ten minutes with nothing. Over a hundred people are still unaccounted for. The fire is still out of control.
