All I’ve been saying for the past 10 minutes is, “What the hell just happened?”Â
Lyana is the Dove princess, and soon she will be mated. She has always had a thing for the skies, she has always had an abnormal longing for adventure and the world below the 7 floating kingdoms. The Sea of Mist has always had her attention, but she could never go. She’s to be a queen, soon, of course. The day of the “mating trials,” Lyana and her bff Cassi fly off to watch the first constants (other princes and princesses) cross the sky bridge. A dragon flies up and one of the princes is brutally attacked. Funny though, that Lyana has an (illegal, so illegal that she could be beheaded) healing power. She and Cassi sneak this charred prince to a cave to heal him, and that is where the trouble begins.Â
They go through the mating trials, but Lyana ends up choosing a mate she wasn’t expecting. But, there are bigger things at play than these mating trials, or of the beautiful grumpy “prince,” and even Lyana herself. She is simply a pawn in a much bigger plan. A prophesied pawn.Â
The characters... They’re sweet, they’re likable. But I wouldn’t say there is anything especially intriguing, or any features that make you feel like a part of them while you read. They have no ticks for you to track, they just feel kind of basic to me.Â
The romance in this book is especially tragic, as always, and it all ends badly :)
No, really. It’s bad. It’s upsetting. It’s cringy. It’s betrayal. The kindest man there is the loser, of course. And he’s so sweet it hurt MY heart when ya know the two people he loved the most went behind his back -

The ending of this book was so tragic, I don’t know if I can continue this series. But I probably will. Of course I will. The ending of this book did really hurt my soul. If you are going to get this book, get the second one at the same time to soften the bone sawing (f o r s  h  a   d    o    i    n     g) pain. Anyway, good luck with this one. Would I recommend it? Yes. It was easy to get into, the romance was easy to enjoy, and the end... well.Â
Tragic.
