Design Process: Luz
Luz and a few others (Amity, Gus and Willow) were originally designed before the stype was decided, hence sadly I have neither the original concepts for Luz, nor the timelapse for the original reference.
However, I have the Milanote moodboard I made for her.
The concept was simple. Luz is presented as dressing androgynously within the show, hence I wanted to convey that within the design. Within the show there is a more formal outfit in the episode where Luz goes to Grom (The Demon Realm's version of Prom) and wears a skirt, suit top and blazer with her hair swept back.
This inspired me to do something similar, but more masculine instead. As a sort of symbolism, as in the Grom episode, it is considered a good time for Luz, as it is the moment we find out Amity has feelings for Luz and planned to confess during the Grom.
However during the parade in the Fanfic, it is a bad time for Luz, as she finds out her mom is now married to a man she considers pure evil/
Here was the original final product. I used mainly Luz' render for the colours. I made her wear wide high-waist pants, and a stripped shirt that is meant to be similar to her original purple. Her hair is meant to be her regular hair, except just stylised to be textured.
And here is Luz with the colours adjusted to the chosen style.
Overall I love how cosy and warm it turned out. I mainly wish the stripes on her were a little more visible.
Tali also really liked how she turned out. I was originally worried that the purple outline would look odd considering how saturated it is, but thankfully it looks fine.
