Bending up some binding.

I’m find myself being bit in the ass by relying on institutional knowledge.

Bending has always been something that in the past I never felt like I had found solid references for - though there seems to be more info now.

And I think I wrote some of mine down but god knows where it’s at because the last time I bend sides was 5 years ago almost. Fuck

So I’m going with my instincts and seeing where it goes and making better notes.

I’m trying with this new foray back into luthiery to document better and incorporate some data rather than just going by ear, because while my guitars historically have sounded good. And have great projection, I’m looking for a bit more bass heavy nuances sound now.

Cleaning up glue squeeze out from the braces.

I’m voicing the top of this guitar now, and I haven’t voiced a top in general in like 4-5 years (feb 2022 what the fuck) and that was a double x brace. That’s the pink acoustic I just finished up at the end of 2025.

I haven’t braced a modified fan since we lived in Nashville probably in 2017. So coming back to this is proving to be a bit frustrating. Especially because I can’t find a pic of the fan bracing on my previous guitar and don’t take notes lol

I do have that guitar and I love the way it sounds but the top has some warping - I think because I made the mahogany top to thin.

So I’m kind of just moving slow on it. It’s lots of tapping, some shaving, some more tapping.

I think I’ll start with the figured walnut in the first pic. With and Adirondack top. Not sure of the appointments yet. Probably in my Goldilocks shape but with an offset sound hole like Kipps work.

A couple of years ago I got to do this inlay on a Seuf OH-10 for Kevin Morby, recently he got interviewed (for what turns out to basically be a KC development propaganda magazine lol) and was on the cover of it.

It was a super cool thing to get to do for a local turned popular artist. When I started it I didn’t know his solo music, but listened to the Babies a lot. Though I didn’t know he was in that band…
