World of Princesses Installment 1.5 Fun with Percentile Dice
Before I get to the proper installment 2, which will be a different hamlet with the name Royal, I thought I'd share the results of some work I was doing. I did not intuitively understand the underlying math of how d% tables work. I initially made a guess that to make something a 5% chance at the high end of the table that'd be 95-00, but no that's a 6% chance. So I kind of had to work backwards to figure the results I want correctly.
In the 3e DMG as part of the settlement creation rules, there's a table to decide who the chief law enforcement in the area is (page 138 of the 3.5 revision of the DMG)the table is pretty short and looks like this:
01-60 Highest-level Warrior 61-80 Second highest-level Fighter 81-00 Highest-level Fighter
So that needs some rework for The World of Princesses in which no person is a Warrior.
The revised version would be more like:
01-60 Highest-level Fighter, Knight, Warblade, or Barbarian (see subtable A) 61-80 Second highest-level Fighter 81-00 Highest-level Fighter
And then this would be the accompanying subtable A:
01-50 Fighter 51-85 Knight 86-95 Warblade 96-00 Barbarian
The thing that actually started me down this road was trying to do something with the racial demographics from page 139 of the 3.5 DMG trying to add two new races (Goliath and Lupin) at 1% each to the percentages for an integrated community coming out of the Human's 37%, which once you translate that to a d% table would look like:
01-35 Human 36-55 Halfling 56-73 Elf 74-83 Dwarf 84-90 Gnome 91-95 Half-Elf 96-98 Half-Orc 99 Goliath 00 Lupin
