planet description: a highly crystalline habitat with many mountains , caves , and a few oceans . almost all of it is crystal .

due to the challenge in developing complex physical scientific instruments (difficulty using hands , few sources of fuel , not many materials to work with , etc.) , lumens have a highly sophisticated spoken language . they also have great methods of passing down knowledge from generation to generation . additionally , they've studied astrophages more than anyone else in the galaxy .

their situation is that their planet is the breeding ground for astrophages . their sun is also being eaten by the astrophages . astrophages also target lumens like parasites because of a lumen's ability to glow . worst of all , lumens utilize photosynthesis . they mostly live underground due to the infestation , so they have to time their surfacing with lulls in astrophage arrivals in order to both eat and avoid most injury .

lumens are creatures made mostly of light . they generally have no visible gender . when happy and unharmed , the 'petals' on their head stick straight up like a flower . when sad and // or injured (like here , with splendor) their petals seem wilted . due to the current infestation , lumens are almost constantly hungry . they have difficulty using their hands // arms since they must make a conscious effort to form them (here , splendor has their arms 'retracted')
