In this Bible story, Jesus is confronted by a scribe, and the two discuss the two greatest commandments, which all the moral laws boil down to: first, to love God above all else, and second, to love your neighbor as yourself. The scribe then asks Jesus who counts as his neighbor, and Jesus tells the famous story of the Good Samaritan, illustrating that our "neighbors" are everyone we meet (read: "the real neighbors were the friends we made along the way"). 2. In this cartoon, when the scribe asks about who counts as one's neighbor, he goes into a very technical breakdown of the word "neighbor," slowly going through a breakdown of his own as he illustrates how loose the definition can get, depending on who you ask. He ends by complaining that, by some accounts, the definition of "neighbor" is so loose that it risks including EVERYONE. At this, Jesus smirks, because that's exactly the moral of the story He's about to tell.
