@ussjellyfish I forget you live near Target ground zero lol

Target has one corporate headquarters literally a mile from my apartment downtown, and a sprawling megaplex of red circles in the suburbs. 

My brother in law used to work there so he told me that the target I go to all the time is literally Target 1, and the other one I go to when I’m coming the other way is the third busiest Target in the world. It’s kind of hilarious. 

Minnesota <3s Target. 

She barely hears the words, the wind slashing at her ears, cold mist seeping into her skin to wrap around her heart, squeezing it to ice.

“Breathe, little one.”

“I can’t!” she tries to scream over the roaring air and thunder of wings, but her voice breaks in the infinite sky that was never meant for human breath.

“No need to shout, I can hear your mind.”

“I think I’m going to faint!”

“You need to get closer to me. Breathe into my skin, turn your head against the wind until your lungs stop burning.”

“I don’t think humans are supposed to be that far high.”

“You’re not a mere human, Regina. You’re a witch. And you’ve been honoured by a dragon. Open your eyes. Look around. This is your first flight; it’ll never feel like this again.”

It’s still hard to breathe, hard to hold on to slippery scales, hard to see through the frost hanging from her eyelashes; but she looks, her cheek against the dragon’s neck, arms hugging the powerful body fiercely, and when she stops breathing again, it’s for an altogether different reason.

There are colors in the sky she didn’t know existed; golden cities and vales of clouds, an endless possibility of worlds in the vastness of space, a kingdom with no horizon.

“It’s…”

She chokes on tears that weren’t brought by the cold.

She can almost hear Maleficent smiles in her head.

“Breathe, Regina. Breathe.”
