Molly, being Molly, was sprawled across the couch, popcorn in a humongous bowl balanced on her stomach, a veritable mountain of pillows propping up her head so she could watch the film. Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed —- a fucking classic, and Molly considered Daphne Blake a personal icon, so jot that down —- was playing, and Molly and Lucy were curled up, watching one of their classic faves. “Luce,” Molly said, pelting a piece of popcorn at her sister’s head, “if you were Velms, and a dude saved your life but also had a weird shrine built to a crazy guy who brought monsters to life who were trying to kill you, would you, like, get it, or tell him heck no?”

“Shhhhh. Don’t talk.” Claire had noidea how much she had drank so far, her vision was mostly a blur and her bodywasn’t very stable. Somehow she managed to release the cup in her hands,probably by throwing it on the sofa or whatever, and approached Lucy… bybasically holding her from behind and covering her mouth. “They are here. They’’ll listen.Shh…” A whisper, and then three  more seconds went by; Claire triedapplying some strength so she would move Lucy, but ended up falling instead.Fortunately, in a chair or a sofa, because it didn’t hurt. 

“Sus-Lucy?” Her right hand found another bottle just before Claire elevated herknees, bringing it near her stomach and sitting almost in a fetal position.“It is ending.”
