Just musing out loud, but here's a few Lucy HCs I've got.
I headcanon that despite Lucy's outgoing personality, in reality she's as lonely as Gru is...maybe even lonelier than him by the time they met because Gru has a family while Lucy doesn't. She uses humor a lot both because she genuinely likes it but also it's Something to do to make people like her. Maybe she's too loud or too energetic or just too much for many people. She's somewhat aware of the problem, and she has tried to tone herself down before but it's just really hard. So Gru and Lucy's friendship means so so much to both of them because they love each other for who they are.
A little related to that, as much as she's friendly, approachable, and generally very caring...she's actually not that great with comforting people other than just cheering them up. I really, REALLY like some of her scenes in DM3 and the second storyboard on Nolwenn Robert's site where she's a bit awkward in trying to cheer Gru up. She's not really used to just sitting down and listening. In general I like that she comes across as socially awkward sometimes where she just doesn't know how to comfort others or, in fact, be a "proper" mother. I looove imperfect women always.
