So I've had this wee lil ficlet running around in my head for ages. The Kings Tree has long stood as my first love of the fanfic of the KP world and I couldn't shake it. So today, I decided to actually make it happen. This one's for you @luckydragon10. ♥️
'En garde!' Kinn yelled, swishing the tree branch back and forth. He'd managed to escape his lesson on strategy and snuck out to his favorite spot behind the house. He knew he'd be found shortly but even the temporary time was enjoyable.
In fact as he looked over he could see the black shoes of Basil sticking out from behind the largest tree. He would always let Kinn know he was close but not interfere, which is why he was the favorite of the brothers.
'Kinn you brat!' came Khuns voice into the garden.
Kinn smiled, he knew Khun wasn't upset, just jealous Kinn was free of the rules. Khun came into the main garden with his hands on his hips, shaking his head.
'Listen, just because you're the spare doesn't mean you can get away with everything!'
Kinn turned and threw his brother a long stick and raised his with a challenge. Khun easily caught his and with a flourish shifted his feet and answered the question.
The brothers began dancing around the shaded garden. Their mock sabers clashing as they cheered each other on in their duel.
'Boys' came their mothers voice. Immediately they dropped their sham foils and spun around, 'Mae!'
'You know better than this, head back into your lessons.'
Each brother stopped to hug her and pat Kim on the head as they ran back to the house.
She paused for a moment before heading back, watching Kim toddle over to the branches on the ground, determined to imitate his big brothers.
'See Kim', she said squatting down, 'these are the branches of the ratchaphruek tree, it's always been my favorite. When the hot season gets here these trees will be full of the yellow flowers that bloom.'
Kim wandered around the garden, grabbing a handful of the jasmine flower and carrying it with him.
She smiled watching her youngest. He rubbed his eyes as he meandered over to the fort Kinn had tried to build last summer. The long and thin branches didn't work well for stability, but he and Khun hadn't cared when they ran around having mock battles to defend it.
She scooped Kim up and headed to her favorite bench. He curled into her shoulder and fell asleep sucking his thumb as she relaxed in the shade of the giant tree.
So that's it. Just a quick lil prequel that I hope Nemi won't mind my sticking out there. I couldn't shake the vision of a little Kinn playing with the branches of the tree.
If you want to read the REAL fic go here. And tell our favorite dragon why her writing is so wonderful please!
