Warning: small car incident, skipping school
October was the worst month for the vigilantes of Gotham.
It was the month when all the villains decide to spread their terror in the city, making the heroes tired and worn.
Tonight was no exception as the Scarecrow filled a type of hallucination gas in the police station.
Dick was quick enough to notice the symptoms and alerted batman before the whole building would tear each other apart.
His father showed up, alongside Tim who came up with an antidote in record time.
Bruce was proud that Dick was training to be an officer, he was becoming a young man who was working hard for his profession. Bruce doesn’t want to admit that he missed his help as Nightwing, but he couldn’t care less. His son was happy, and that’s what mattered.
Bruce took the long way back to the cave, as he was finding the missing person who escaped Arkham: Two Face.
When he first found out about his disappearance, all he could think of was how you would react.
And it wasn’t helping that you were nearing your third trimester.
Bruce vowed to find him and turn him in, but Two Face’s tracks were hard to find.
It was like he didn’t want to be found.
Bruce gave up and headed back home, as Tim was drifting off to sleep in the Batmobile.
Once they entered the cave and got out of the car, Bruce loudly sighed in relief.
He was finally home.
He sent Tim off to his room, saying that he needs his rest since it was a school night.
Alfred approached him with a light dinner, as Bruce was too tired to stomach a whole meal.
Bruce was about to eat till he saw someone shift in his chair where the monitor was.
“She came downstairs to wait for you. I wanted to urge her that you’ll be arriving late again, but she fell asleep.” Alfred said.
Bruce’s face was defeated as what Alfred was referring to.
Ever since you heard of your birth father’s escape, you’ve been on edge. You’ve been lacking sleep as all you could do was worry that something may happen to you or your family. Bruce even felt guiltier as he was also the reason for your insomnia. Last week, you stayed up all night tending to his wounds when he was battling Killer Croc.
His left shoulder was badly injured and he was still facing pain. Bruce quickly ate and lowered himself to the ground in front of you, lightly shaking your arm.
“Darling…” He whispered, trying not to wake you up so harshly.
You fluttered your eyes and wiped them, looking down at Bruce.
“Let’s go to bed, you know sleeping in the chair isn’t good for your back.” Your fiance said, as you’ve done it a few times and resulted to light Braxton hicks the following morning.
You didn’t say a word as you were too tired to speak, so you got up and walked in tow with him to the master bedroom. Your finance was right behind you as he placed a comforting hand on your back.
Once you entered the shared room, you went to brush your teeth as Bruce shed off his clothes and took a quick shower. Once you were done in the bathroom, you sit on the edge of the bed and waited for Brue to come out.
He then walks out, glistening from the droplets he couldn’t reach. Aquaman couldn’t even be compared to how your Bruce looks now, wet and handsome. He tosses the towel in a nearby chair and slips on his underwear. He turns to get the two tubs from the nightstand and sat in between your legs on the ground, handing you a small tub of vaseline for his aching shoulder.
You rub the vaseline in your hands and place them lightly on his back. You then need your palms to his shoulder blades, as you lightly hear a grunt from Bruce. You stop for a second till you see his features at rest, as he was used to the pain.
As you were done massaging his shoulders. He gets up from his spot and looks down.
“Lie down,” he whispers softly.
You did as you were told, too tired to do anything else.
Bruce opens your shea butter and rubs the soft cream on your belly. You know he’s taking his time as the strokes on your stomach are slower from past nights.
“What’s wrong?” he asks you.
You position yourself to look at him with tired eyes.
“I’ve just been… thinking.” You mumbled out.
“Hopefully you’re not getting cold feet,” Bruce smirked, trying to lighten the situation with a joke.
You playfully roll your eyes as Bruce finished wiping the butter on your belly as he crawled his way to his side of the bed.
“We’re going to find him, you know…” Bruce said, knowing that Dent was on your mind.
“It’s just not my… him.” You caught yourself before uttering those words.
You turn around and face Bruce with a serious look.
“Don’t you feel like every time we move forward from tragedy, it strikes again?” You ask.
Bruce looks at you with sympathetic eyes as his mouth formed a thin line.
“All the time.” He states.
You slowly sit up from your lying position and look down at your lap.
“And it makes me worry that something bad will happen. I can’t face losing anyone else, Bruce. I just can’t.” You whispered as tears started to form. Bruce immediately gets up and hugs you, calming your sobs.
He knows he can’t promise that nothing will happen, Bruce made many of those promises and he broke every single one.
He lifts your chin gently and raises your sight to his.
“Many things will happen, whether we want it or not. But you won’t face those fears alone.” Bruce softly says.
You smile at him as you both lie down in the bed with Bruce holding you in his arms as you rest your belly on his side. You both drift off to sleep, hoping that your mind will be put to ease.
The following morning, you woke up alone in your bed. You slowly get up and get out of bed to see if Bruce left for work. You make your way to the kitchen where you saw your two of your youngest sons and Alfred eating breakfast prepared by
Bruce?
He turns around and smiles at you from the counter, as he was cutting fresh fruit.
“Don’t worry, he didn’t cook,” Tim said, as he took a bite of his meal. You chuckle lightly as you ruffled both of your sons' hair and kissed the top of their heads.
“Good morning dear, how are you feeling?” Alfred says as he helps you in your seat.
“Better from last night.” You said as Bruce gave you a kiss and placed a bowl of greek yogurt with chia seeds and your favorite fruits.
“I woke up a bit early this morning, so I thought I’d make breakfast and take the boys to school,” Bruce said as he was cleaning the kitchen.
“I’m excited to pick you guys up after school. We could check out that place you two have been talking about.” You said, remembering the plans you made a week ago.
“Actually, could we reschedule? I’m working on an art project for our school’s exhibit.” Damian said.
“Even me, mom. I gotta tutor someone in my chem class.” Tim added.
“No problem, we’ll plan next time.” You said, smiling at them.
Bruce dusts his hands off and stares at his kids.
“K, let’s head out before the traffic hits. Say goodbye to Alfred and your mom.” The boys quickly cleaned their plates as they said a quick goodbye to Alfred and pecked your cheek before heading outside. Bruce kisses you again before heading out.
“I love you.” He says.
“I love you, more.” You reply.
Bruce leans down to your belly and gives a quick kiss to it. “I love you most,” Bruce said to your bump, making you laugh.
He then heads outside to the car to drive out.
You turn to Alfred and smile.
“Now that I have the afternoon cleared, would you like to join me on my errands for the wedding?” You asked Alfred.
“I thought you’d never ask,” Alfred replies as you two get ready for the day.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After Bruce dropped the boys, he went to work at Wayne Enterprises.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t focus as all he could do was stare at a picture on his desk of you and the kids.
With his lunch hour nearing, he texts a quick message on his phone before heading out to the local diner he likes to eat. No one cared who you were or who you were with, you just ate your meal and paid your way out. He pulls his way up the side of the street and walks into the glass doors.
The scent of last hour’s breakfast hung in the air. A middle-aged woman greets him in the front and they exchange a few words
The Wayne man made his way to a booth and pulls up a menu up to his face, trying to look busy.
He then hears the person he wanted to see shuffling in the seat in front of him.
“Sorry, I’m a bit late. Jon forgot his lunch and I had to fly back to Smallville.” Clark chuckled, shaking his head.
“You’re fine, I didn’t wait for long,” Bruce said, glad to see his friend.
The two men ordered lunch and were catching up from the past weeks.
Clark could see how stiff Bruce was as he was trying to enjoy his meal.
“Although I like our random lunches together, I feel like there’s a reason why you wanted to meet up in the middle of the week.”
Bruce sighs a bit, giving a dry chuckle at the end.
“I’m glad you don’t have mind-reading as your powers, that would be more annoying.”
Clark laughs a bit. “Don’t tell J'onzz.”
Bruce pushes over his plate.
“I need your advice on something. Don’t worry, it’s not concerning any caped business.” Bruce said.
“How… How was it like when you and Lois had Jon?” Bruce asked.
Clark was taken back from his statement.
“You can’t be serious,” Clark said, trying to see any hint of a joke as the Wayne man brought up four kids.
But this is Bruce he was talking to, and he looked very serious.
“I got really excited, but I also remembered if the baby would have any powers. Then I got worried if anything would affect Lois while she was carrying Jon. I was spiraling and I didn’t want Lois to find out. It wasn’t until I was hyperventilating when she was in labor that she had to calm me down. Then everything changed when our son was in our arms.”
Clark gets a picture out of his wallet and gives it to Bruce.
It was of the Kent family at their barn, laughing as it appeared that Clark was throwing Jon in the air (but he was actually flying) and Lois rolling her eyes at her two boys.
“The worry is still there, but I realized that as long as I have my family, I could do anything.”
Bruce smiles at the word: family.
His thoughts get interrupted before his phone rings. He scans the number that appeared on his screen.
“It’s the boys' school,” Bruce mutters before picking up the phone.
“Yes, this is he. What happened?” he says in the phone.
Clark didn’t use his hearing as he was giving Bruce privacy.
“I’ll be on my way.” Bruce said urgently and hung up.
“That was the headmaster. Tim and Damian are in detention.”
The two men get up, about to leave.
“Go, I’ll cover the bill.” Clark said.
“I already paid for it, I knew your order.” Bruce said
“I can’t be that predictable,” Clark said.
“You get a certain brand of burger here because they don’t have the same patties back in Smallville. You then get an apple pie alamode and even though you eat the whole thing, you claim that your mom makes the best.”
“It’s not a claim, it’s a fact.” Clark sassed a bit.
Bruce snickers and was about to make his way out. Clark quickly calls out for him and places a comforting hand on his shoulder.
“Your daughter is going to have the best family. Don’t sweat the small moments.”
Bruce couldn’t help but smile before he heads for his car, thinking that things will turn out alright.
Now, he had to worry about his two youngest.
Once he pulls up to the school, he already sees you and Alfred in sight. Bruce gets out of the car and goes up to you.
“School called you, too?” he asks.
You shook your head yes, sighing in annoyance.
“Can’t wait to see what happened this time.” You said, placing a hand on your stomach and the other on your back.
You and Bruce walk in tow to the headmaster’s office, as you two weren’t strangers of being called to the school.
When Dick was in school, he was often being a show-off: swooning the girls while he makes handstands on the monkey bars. The teachers called you and Bruce as other people tried to attempt whatever “The Flying Grayson” did, and often got hurt in the process (Why do kids think they could be trained acrobats in a matter of minutes? You have no clue.)
Jason was another story. He would sometimes get into fights as he would stick up to snobby rich kids who would pick on someone. He asked Bruce one night why should he be idle at school when he could kick ass to villains. You scolded him that there are other ways to stand up to bullies than showing your fists.
Now, you walk into the office while you see your two sons looking guilty and quiet.
The Headmaster gets up to greet you two. “Hello, Thank you for coming in. I wish we could have met under better circumstances.” She said.
You give her a small smile as Bruce helped you sit down, then he sat by your side.
The headmaster laces her hands together. “Earlier today, a custodian caught Tim and Damian sneaking out of a window during class hours.”
You turn back and see how your sons hung their heads low.
Bruce leads the conversation. “We were under the impression that Tim was helping someone to tutor and Damian was assisting with the art exhibit after school.”
The headmaster’s face turned confused.
“Although we have students who tutor after school, Tim wasn’t registered as one. Also, the student’s art exhibit has been delayed so the students aren’t supposed to be doing any pieces till further notice.”
Now, it was Bruce’s turn to look back at the kids and they shrunk in their chairs.
“But, I am most concern about these patterns from your family-”
“Excuse me?” You interrupted her.
“Darling…” Bruce whispered to you but you didn’t want to listen.
“Well in the past, your oldest sons haven’t been the best of students so that’s really reflecting on how you bring up your sons. Or rather, Mr. Wayne’s sons.” She replied.
You feel yourself burning up as your eyes were shooting daggers.
“I have you know, Headmaster, that my sons have gone through so much before they entered our lives. Bruce and I wasted not one second raising them as our own. Yes, what Tim and Damian did is unacceptable; But, they are good kids. So don’t question our parenting or how much we love our children.” You said, getting up and putting your purse over your shoulder.
“Let’s go.” You looked at your sons as they followed you in tow.
Bruce slowly gets out of his seat and looks at the headmaster.
“My fiance and I will talk to our sons about what they have done, but we will also discuss whether we will continue sending our children here.” Bruce concluded as he made his way out.
Once he walks to the entrance of the school, he sees you talking to Alfred to take the other car as you want to ride with Bruce to talk to your sons. Bruce silently unlocks the car and helps you in the passenger seat. Tim and Damian crawl to the back and buckle as Bruce starts the car and drives out.
The drive was silent as you were staring at the window while Bruce was concentrating on the road.
“I blame myself that I didn’t memorize the custodian schedule. That way, we wouldn’t be caught.” Damian says out loud.
You turn your head around.
“I couldn’t care less that you were caught, I care about WHY you two decided to leave school in the middle of the day mission impossible style?” you raised your voice.
“We had a lead on a case we’ve been working on and it couldn’t wait.” Tim replied in a low tone.
“So not only did you lie to me and your father about where you will be, but you both decided to just ditch school because of a damn case?” you asked out loud.
“And what case are you two working on? I haven’t assigned any the past two weeks.” Bruce added.
Damian grumbles something under his breath.
“I have no patience for you to be moody, tell me what you two are working on!” You asked angrily.
“We were looking for your father!” Damian screamed back.
Bruce presses the brake of the car out of shock. You jolt forward in your seat from the sudden shift, hissing as the seatbelt tighten your abdomen. Bruce immediately pulls over so he could see if you were ok.
“Are you alright?” Bruce asks concerningly, scanning if he accidentally hurt you.
“I’m fine, the halt took me off guard. We’re fine.” You assured him, holding his hand to ground both you and him.
You both turn to your sons who were also concerned for your being.
“Explain everything, now.” Bruce commanded.
Tim looks up to both of you and spoke.
“Ever since we thought you were dead, things were falling at the seams. Mom had it worse out of all of us. And when she started seeing Dent at Arkham, she started getting better. But when he disappeared, mom went to that same cycle again. We thought if we could find him, she’ll feel more at ease.” Tim said.
“Mother needs closure, and I thought if I got that for her, she’ll forgive me for everything I’ve done in the past.” Damian also said.
“What do you mean, Dami?” You asked, your voice softer from before.
Damian’s hands were in fist as you could see he was fighting the urge to cry.
“When I first met you, I despised you. I hated how you wanted to be my mom when I already had one. But then I realized that my own mother wasn’t coming back for me, I lost all hope. But you never gave up on me. She almost hurt you all those months ago and I can’t forgive her for that, she almost took away someone I loved.” Tim and Bruce hung their heads low as all you could do was cry.
Damian roughly wipes his tears away in his sleeve.
“And when Tim announced your lineage, I realized we weren’t so different. We had parents who chose their own needs than their own flesh and blood. I don’t care if my own mother is dead or alive. But you still have your father, and you still need your answers of why he wasn’t there.”
You try your best to reach out for him, and he quickly takes your hand.
“Damian, we can’t change the blood within us. But what we can do is change who we become and choose our own paths, our own family.” You look at at Bruce who shares a loving gaze at you.
You turn back to your boys.
“I love you and your brothers, nothing can break that. No matter how many times you boys get in trouble, I still love you. So please, don’t go chasing after someone that doesn’t mean a thing to me. All I need is my family, and that’s enough.” You said.
Tim and Damian get out of their seats and hug you as best as they can.
“We’re still not off the hook, right?” Tim asks out of the blue.
“Oh, you’re grounded big time.” Bruce replied, making you laugh lightly.
After everyone composed themselves, Bruce went on the road again and made his way at the manor.
He pulls in and parks the car, where he gets out to help you too.
Damian walks with you at your side when you enter your home.
“Remeber: no missions, internet, or training for the next week.” Bruce called out to his youngest as he was ear shot.
“Same to you.” Bruce said to Tim.
Tim lightly chuckles.
“Can I tell you something? It’s about why we decided to leave.” Tim asked.
Bruce looks up and sees you from afar, starting to lie on the couch in the living space.
“Sure.” he replied.
Tim shifts where he stood, looking uneasy.
“Dick called me during break saying that he found insight on Dent’s file. He said that he started seeing a psychiatrist at Arkham and was getting treatment for his dissociative identity disorder after mom’s first meeting with him. His results were improving, so I don’t know why he escaped if he was getting help.”
Bruce’s forehead wrinkles slightly as he was thinking.
“I’ll look into it. I’ll let your mom know about this, but no more suit work. I mean it.”
Tim nods his head as he made his way to his room. Bruce releases a sigh and walks up to you at the couch. You turn your head up to him and give him a small smile.
“Come lay with me?” you ask.
“You know I always take the offer.” He jokes as he makes his way behind you, wrapping his arms around you and your bump.
“Today was…”
“Yep.” Bruce finished your sentence.
Both of you were frustrated about how things climaxed, but at the end of the day, your boys only cared for your well being.
“I told the headmaster that we’re going to discuss if the kids will continue going to school there.” Bruce said.
You try looking at him from where you laid. “Bruce, I think that’s a bit melodramatic. Tim is almost done with high school and Damian was just getting settled in his surroundings. And I know how much that school meant to your dad.” You said, knowing that the late Thomas Wayne was an alum there.
Bruce laces his hand into yours.
“It’s not just the boys, it’s also about if we send Lily there too.” He said as his he holds you closer around your belly.
“Let’s talk about it tomorrow, today’s been really rough and I think I exceeded my brain power today.” You joked, but you were really drained from getting upset.
Bruce kisses your shoulder to show you he’ll wait as you guys mindlessly talk about other things.
“I went planning for the wedding today.” You said.
“Really? How was it?”
“It was good. We need to try cakes though this week, you’re always so picky.”
“I’m not that picky.”
“Yes, you are!”
You both chuckle from your light banter until you yawned and slowly closed your eyes till you were sleeping.
Bruce knew that you would wake up if he got up so he decided to join you for a nap.
Awhile later, Dick enters the manor and was about to announce his presence until he saw the two of you sleeping.
He smiles at how cute you guys looked and took a quick picture to send to his brothers.
Dick makes his way to Alfred to leave you guys where you are: happy in each other’s arms.
