Secondary to that, they never got much engagement per unit effort anyway, which is fine tbc, it's a niche topic, but does indicate low numbers of ppl will miss it

Deeply sad that like half my journal options for publication are things like Low Intensity Conflict and Law Enforcement. If I were to get an article in them I'd have to deliberately distort information so I wasn't accidentally helping inform more 'effective' policing and counterinsurgency practice. I just want to write about weird esoteric terrorist groups in peace :,(
At least I don't study leftist groups and most of my subjects no longer exist....
Truly if this book ever makes it to publication it'll be one massive extended caveat
It's PROBABLY a really good sign if several of the more respectable authors in your field still can't agree on the names of key players or what they thought or what they did and half of them evidently haven't read the source material they're drawing on and

The UDA's a fascinating organization to study, because at any given point on its timeline except maybe 1974 and 1999-94 its seriousness and credibility somehow seems to manage to be lower than every other point on that timeline. It must be some kind of quantum effect.
Finding it kind of funny how the Ulster Citizens' Army (early 70s left-wing loyalist dissident org, or possibly totally fake) always seemed to issue their big press releases in October. Either:
A) The academics (Bruce, mainly) who are primarily reliant on the sources from the UDA/UVF are wrong to say that the UCA was purely a black propaganda op, OR B) Between pretending to be a Loyalist Marxist dissident and faking satanic rituals, spooky season was a wild time to be a British MilInt officer.
