But of a wild storm hit the east coast of Australia last night. Plus the wind was a little wild yesterday and my area has a few fallen tree branches around. These images were taken during an east coast low back in 2020, when the surf was a little wild down at Maroubra beach. The world of astro photography is very much a learning curve. When I first started I had no clue as to what I was doing, but as soon as I started to be a little more comfortable in the settings I needed to use, I was keen to get out when there was clear sky. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One particular evening I convinced the boy to drive me down to Little Bay to shoot the Milky Way. Little did I realise that the Milky Way changes positions depending on the time of year. So when I’d shot down there a couple weeks prior the Milky Way was over the ocean, so on this occasion I assumed the same. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ Well I was wrong and the Milky Way was sitting right above the houses & golf course. Street lights & flood lights. With the airport, port botany & the light from the city also not to far in the distance, I had way too much light pollution to be shooting astro. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So the trip wasn’t in vain (and to save face with the boy) I spent about 30mins taking some shots anyways. But in order to see some of the Milky Way, I feel like I had to edit this image within an inch of its life. Did I pull it off? Maybe yes, maybe no, I’ll let you guys decide. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve still got a long way to go before mastering astro, but I wanted to share this with all anyways. Some mistakes are funny but you can always learn from from them! I now understand why some photos take years of planning achieve and I’m slowly trying to wrap my head around apps like @photopills Here on the east coast of Australia, us togs got the bulk of the 2021 astro season taken from us. Having a whale of a time! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ive been on a couple of whale watching boats and never been able to capture a breach (although I’ve seen them and they are just amazing!). I tend to get blessed with a lot of fin action 😁 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With the season coming to an end here just as Sydney is reopening, there is one operator left in town running tours. I’m tossing up whether to book one or not as there’s not guarantee of seeing whales. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This series was taken last year just as we came out of our first lockdown. It was late in the afternoon on a sunset booking but it was completely overcast. Been in a bit of a funk of late, hence why I haven’t been posting much of late. I just needed a little bit of a break. Even writing this now I feel like I’m struggling… 😪😪 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So I feel like the best way to get back into the swing of things is by posting a sunrise shot. This one was taken last year and checked the forecast the night before and it was going to be a good one! And it wasn’t wrong. The colour didn’t last too long but for the few minutes it did it was like OMG! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It was a Sunday morning so naturally it was full of other photographers. I tried editing the one on the left out in photoshop, but the cloning looked awful so I just left them in. I’m still trying to get my head around photoshop and learning the ins & outs.
