A plain shot, but an exceptional Victorian gothic revival building. I am prompted to post the University of Glasgow by the obits this week of architectural historian and critic, Gavin Stamp. For many years Professor of Architectural History at the Glasgow School of Art, he was a promoter of Alexander (Greek) Thomson’s work and also wrote a biography of George Gilbert Scott who was the architect of this building and many others in UK cities. I have featured a few from both architects in my posts, and Scotland in particular is fortunate to have inherited some magnificent buildings, though it did not always care for them well. Stamp wrote for Private Eye as Piloti, and was instrumental is saving some of the best of Britain’s architectural heritage. I have happy memories of the University and still get there each year to lecture. . . . . . #thisisglasgow #glasgow #glasgowuni #almamater #scotspirit #igerscots #lovesscotland #igmasters #scotland_insta #architecturelovers #gothic #cityscape_sco #victorian #victorianarchitecture (at University of Glasgow)
