luke looks up from where he’s wiping the menu’s off. he’s not surprised with the statement. he’s been apart of rory’s life for as long as he can remember but his heart still fills with love and a grin comes across his face. he has always loved rory like his own, way before he became romantic involved with her mom. now, being her stepfather, the sentiment means more than ever. ‘ love you too, kid, but i’m not giving you anymore coffee. ‘ 

thumbing  through  the  edge  of  the  book  ,  jess  only  GLANCED  up  when  he  saw  the  bright  lights  of  the  house  start  peering  out  from  behind  the  trees  .  pursing  his  lips  ,  he  threw  the  book  into  his  back  pocket  ,  &&  fished  out  the  cd  .  leaning  on  the  door  frame  ,  he  gave  it  a  knock  waiting  for  rory  to  open  it  then  held  up  the  cd  in  front  of  her  when  she  answered  .  “  FOUND  IT   -  chuck  berry  .  ”  he  turned  the  disk  case  around  &&  glanced  at  the  track  list  .  “  if  you’re  planning  on  going  into  a   RETIREMENT  HOME soon  ,  i  have  a  few  recommendations  .  ”

It was nice to hear, even after all of this time. The time they spent together when they were younger was something he still cherished, even after all of the wrong choices made between them later on. There was no denying that Rory was his first real love and that’s not something you just forget. No amount of pain or years can take that away. 

Dean chuckles, his head falling slightly allowing strands of his hair to fall in front of his face. “Thanks, Rory.” He tells her with sincerity in his voice. “That’s..that’s nice to hear.” He offers her a smile with just a hint of sadness , a wonder of what could have been if things had been different. 

“I can say the same.” 

@ldcnes:   holly,  we’ve killed paul anka so many times,  and we’ve created the sweetest dynamic between our kids.  writing with you is always a delight and i’m so glad we still talk.  i adore you,  and your luke,  and liam,  and our kids,  and all the incredible memories you’ve been a part of.  all the angst,  all the fluff,  all the feelings.

@grcwingstrcng:   nic.  my wife.  you’re a true angel,  i’m not kidding.  i adored you,  and i’m so appreciative of someone who loves max and lorelai as much as i do.  they’re amazing,  and deserve love,  and the verses we’ve built for them are my favorite.  also the father/daughter things we’ve done with richard and lorelai have been delightful and i just???  love you.  thank you for being my friend,  and my wife,  and just one of the loves of my life.  i flipping tables love you.

@lovescoffee:   katie!!!  you’re wonderful.  i remember when criminal minds brought us together,  then gilmore girls solidified our friendship.  you’re genuinely one of my dearest friends and i’m so glad to know you and to be able to write with you.

@burnselfs:   jackie!!  you’ve also been around for so long,  and i appreciate it so much.  your writing is beautiful,  and your jess is *chef’s kiss*.  the fact that we know the truth abt jess and lorelai being such good friends is wonderful,  i love the verse we have with holly and katie where lorelai’s basically jess’ mom and i love you and i’m so glad to have you in my life.

“hey!  i’ve been up for like two hours,  but dad says you and your mom really like your sleep so i thought i’d leave you be.”   more time for the really dorky early morning kid’s shows anyway.   “i know you like coffee,  and i’d have made you some as some nice little sisterly gesture but i’m not very good at the whole hot beverages thing.”   whenever she visits sherry in paris there’s a pretty much endless amount of ‘spoiling’ in what gigi assumes is to make up for the entire lack of actually being a parent,  and dad?  well,  he’d taken well to having money and had hired a full staff for their place so she’s never really had any reason to learn.   “have i thanked you for letting me stay with you by the way?  you’re always a whole lot of fun and not even a little bit snobby which is a pretty nice change.”
