sometimes  beau  wondered  what  santi  saw  in  him.  wondered  what  it  was  that  made  him  stay,  made  him  love  so  fiercely  when  beau  still  sometimes  struggled  to  love  himself.  but  he  never  asked.  not  because  he  didn’t  want  to  know,  but  because  he  was  still  a  little  too  shy,  a  little  too  afraid  that  asking  would  sound  like  fishing  for  praise.  santi  made  him  feel  important.  he  made  beau  feel  like  he  mattered,  like  he  was  something  worth  choosing  every  single  day,  and  it  was  such  a  rare,  staggering  thing  that  sometimes  beau  didn’t  even  know  what  to  do  with  it.  it  made  him  want  to  return  the  favour,  made  him  want  to  pour  all  that  love  back  into  santi,  to  shower  him  with  affection  in  every  way  he  knew  how,  to  give  him  even  a  fraction  of  the  time,  the  effort,  the  devotion  that  santi  offered  so  easily  without  asking  for  anything  in  return.  it  was  why  beau  was  taking  his  time,  why  he  hadn’t  rushed  headfirst  into  saying  yes,  even  when  every  part  of  him  had  been  screaming  it  from  the  beginning. it  wasn’t  hesitation  nor  uncertainty.  if  anything,  if  it  had  only  been  about  his  feelings,  beau  would  have  rolled  his  eyes  at  all  the  ceremony  and  blurted  out  his  yes  the  very  second  he  realised  santi  was  courting  him.  there  was  no  doubt  in  his  heart  about  wanting  him,  about  choosing  him.  but  he  wanted  to  make  it  special.  wanted  the  moment  he  said  yes  to  be  something  that  they  could  both  hold  onto.  a  memory  built  deliberately,  lovingly,  carefully,  like  everything  else  he  wanted  to  build  with  santi. he  found  himself  grinning,  unable  to  stop  it,  as  santi  planted  kisses  along  his  cheek.  beau’s  eyes  close,  heart  beating  faster  with  every  brush  of  santi’s  lips  against  his  skin.  “are  you  that  excited  na  marinig  ang  matamis  kong  oo?”  he  joked,  “should  i  say  it  now,  hm?  pero  pano  naman  ’yan...  i  want  to  make  the  moment  special  when  i  finally  say  yes.”  when—not  if.  he  hoped  santi  caught  it.  beau  was  sure.  he  had  never  been  more  sure  of  anything.  he  wriggled  closer,  “ngi.  ayoko  nga.  pag  sinagot  kita  ngayon  baka  isipin  mo  ginawa  ko  lang  ‘yon  para  diligan  mo  'ko.”

“dude,  i  swear.  kanina  pa  tayo  sinusundan  no'n.  nakailang  ikot  na  tayo,  andiyan  parin  siya  sa  likod,  oh!”

“kahit  ako  naaawa  na  sa'yo,  eh.  palagi  ka  nalang  umeepal  sa  dates  namin.  why  don't  you  try  downloading  bumble?  may  mga  matitino  naman  siguro  do'n  if  you  looked  hard  enough.”

this  wasn’t  in  adam's  2025  bingo. sat  in  a  police  station,  wrists  still  sore  from  the  cuffs  that  had  been  clamped  around  him  just  moments  ago,  adam  tried  to  process  how  exactly  he  had  ended  up  here.  the  officer  in  front  of  him—middle-aged,  uninterested,  clearly  just  waiting  for  his  shift  to  be  over—was  barely  paying  attention  now  that  adam  had  been  deemed  not  a  threat. okay.  fine.  maybe  this  was  partially  his  fault.  kasalanan  niya  na  hindi  siya  nakapag-communicate  ng  maayos.  but  after  years  of  wondering  what  had  happened  to  piper,  after  she’d  disappeared  off  the  face  of  the  earth  with  no  trace,  after  he’d  returned  from  his  master’s  programme  in  the  uk  only  to  be  greeted  with  the  news  that  she’d lost  her  fucking  memories...  what  else  was  he  supposed  to  do? tracking  santi  down  had  been  easy.  he  still  had  his  number,  and  like  a  totally  righteous  man  who  deserved  to  get  the  answers  he needed,  santi  had  actually  given  him  the  address  to  her  workplace.  so  adam,  armed  with  his  newfound  knowledge,  had  done  the  only  logical  thing  he  could  think  of. he’d  followed  her. not  in  a  creepy  way,  obviously.  just...  trailing  after  her.  discreetly.  waiting  for  the  perfect  moment  to  strike  approach  her,  to  say  something.  to figure  out  how  to  fix  this.  except  before  he  could  even do  anything—around  the  third  turn  they  made  down  the  same  block—she’d  called  the  cops  on  him. the  whole  thing  had  caused  a  scene.  people  had stopped  to  watch,  cameras  out,  recording  the  entire  mess  unfolding  in  real-time.  no  doubt,  by  now,  his  face  was all  over  social  media.  piper  had  accused  him  of  being  a stalker,  and  adam  had  vehemently  denied  it,  but  the  damage  had  already  been  done.  and  as  if  things  weren’t  already  humiliating  enough,  santi  had  swooped  in  like  some great  saviour  and  oh-so-kindly  vindicated  him—somehow forgetting  to  mention  to  piper  that  adam  even existed  in  the  first  place. now,  with  his  arms  crossed  and  his  jaw  tight,  adam  narrowed  his  eyes  at  piper,  who  was  sitting  beside  him  as  she  waited  for  santi  to  pick  her  up.  “seriously,  piper?”  he  sighed,  “do  i  look  like  a  stalker  to  you?  mukha  naman  akong  matino,  'di  ba?  may  stalker  ba  na  naka-lacoste  at  rolex?  parang  'di  ka  kinikilig  pag  nakikita  ako  dati,  eh…”

this  was,  technically,  his  fault. he  should’ve  checked.  he  should’ve  been  more  careful,  more  aware  of  himself  and  of  cedric.  but  cedric’s  lips  left  trails  of  fire  across  his  skin  and  scrambled  every  thought  in  his  head  until  all  he  could  do  was  breathe  and  moan  and  feel.  and  in  moments  like  that,  what  was  one  tiny  mark  on  his  collarbone?  who  cared?  definitely  not  him.  especially  when  cedric  had  been  kissing  down  his  neck  like  he  was  trying  to  memorise  the  shape  of  his  pulse. he  hadn’t  even  noticed  the  hickey  until  santi  saw  it. his  body  ached;  the  stinging  reminder  of  santi’s  anger  was  still  throbbing  in  his  hips,  between  his  thighs,  beneath  every  inch  of  flushed  skin.  santi  had  fucked  his  frustration  into  him,  rough  and  biting,  and  beau  had  just  taken  it.  he  lets  out  a  sigh  and  shifts,  pushing  his  sore,  sore  body  upright  slowly.  every  muscle  protests,  but  he  doesn’t  let  himself  wince.  santi’s  sitting  at  the  edge  of  the  bed,  silent  and  unmoving,  his  back  to  him  like  a  wall.  tall,  cold,  and  distant.  beau’s  eyes  trail  the  lines  of  his  spine.  he  watches  him,  wonders  if  he  should  say  anything  at  all.  if  it  would  even  change  anything. see,  he  might’ve  been  more  apologetic,  might’ve  even  begged—he  already  did  that  once—but  santi  had  also  slept  with  someone  else  behind  his  back,  hadn't  he?  as  if  beau  wouldn't  find  out.  as  if  people  weren’t  stupid  and  loose-lipped  and  in  love  with  gossip.  “love  naman,”  beau  whispers,  voice  a  little  hoarse  from  earlier.  “sorry  na.”  he  leans  forward  and  presses  his  chest  to  santi’s  back,  winding  his  arms  around  his  waist  and  resting  his  chin  on  his  shoulder.  his  lips  brush  against  the  shell  of  santi’s  ear,  “you  have  every  right  to  be  mad—i’m  not  saying  you  don’t.  i  wasn’t  thinking.  but  let’s  not  pretend  we’re  saints  here.  don’t  act  like  you  haven’t  made  your  own  choices,  too.  isn't  it  enough  na  sa'yo  parin  ako  umuuwi?”
