Red and 1989 are slightly more mature albums, and there are love songs that are careful, like Begin Again or Out of the Woods, but I always felt that rep was distinctly different.

rep is vulnerable. It is anxious and distrustful of love. It speaks of a woman who has known blind love and lost it so many times that now, she pictures the end before she dares to dream og letting it begin.

But because she starts off distrustful, the love that comes after feels so much deeper, because she put her walls up and it proved her wrong. folklore and evermore speak of a love that is comfortable, secure. They were writing breakup songs together, and Taylor dared speak of children and eternities and invisible strings, because her anxieties had been proven wrong.

Until they hadn't.
