BtVS + Love Languages: Angel

"I'll give you that view you crave, darling. I'll give you everything."

"Giles didn't set this up. Angel did. This is the wrapping for the gift."

"I found it in a quaint little shopgirl."

Angel's character journey can be tracked through gifts, and the ways in which he exchanges them. After he is turned into a vampire by Darla, the two of them spend centuries killing and torturing together; exchanging gifts. He lures her away from the Master by promising her the beautiful views and fine things she's always wanted. She returns by gifting him victims to torture. Two of his most notable crimes were committed against women that Darla found and "gifted" to him - first Drusilla, and later the Romani girl that resulted in his ensouling.

In 1996, after meeting with Whistler, he devoted himself to Buffy's cause, and he gives gifts as evidence of that devotion. His gift of the cross necklace in the pilot proves himself as an ally to her. His gift of the Claddagh ring in Surprise is meant to demonstrate his love and commitment to her. He gifts jewllery - a classic romantic trope meant to highlight the romanticism of his character.

When he loses his soul again, his romanticism turns dark, and so do his gifts. He leaves drawings and flowers for Buffy, which is equal parts intentionally mockery, and also demonstrative of his undying obsession with her. His love is twisted sideways, and so his love language. With Jenny's death, we see the apex of this drive to leave sick gifts. His love is not just for Buffy, but for death itself. Jenny is left as a gift, an offering, a tribute. A monument to death.

His growing feelings for Cordelia in late S2 are shown with the repeated gifts he brings her. Unlike the highly romanticised gifts given to Buffy, his gifts to Cordelia - buying her clothes, buying her food when she is feeling down, brainstorming future holidays with her - are more based in everyday needs, representing the more mature, down-to-earth love he shares with her.

YES! Oh my goodness, fun fact I was going to write blurbs on each of the guys’ love languages but I never got around to it. But this is just my thoughts, I don’t know too much about love languages but if anyone wants to share what they think let me know!

Luke: his is definitely physical touch. Like??? There are so many examples of times where he’s been laughing at one of the guys (usually Calum) and he’ll touch him, or on stage he’ll just like put his hand on his shoulder. Also with Sierra like in most of their photos he’s laid on her, and even with petunia he just seems like he wants to cuddle always. And when Sierra rubbed his arm to comfort him from paparazzi! There’s also a gif I saw recently where Calum seemed like kinda down in and interview and Luke touched his leg and I was like😭🥺🥰 I also think he could be words of affirmation too, because we know how much he loves a compliment about how he looks. I remember he once said in an interview that he wears leather pants just so people will comment on them! This is already too long but also acts of service maybe? Since he brought up once that when Sierra paid for his dinner he loved that because no one had done that for him before 🥺

Hello, everyone! Oh dear, I’m afraid I’ve missed the last week, and it is now Leo season. Ah well, that post will have to wait for next time. For now, let us revisit the needs of the Moon in the last six signs, from Libra to Pisces!

Moon in Libra: Aesthetics are very important to a Libra Moon. I think of Oscar Wilde’s devotion to aesthetic for its own sake, beauty and elegance as ends in themselves. It is important to these natives that they have a home space that is beautiful and comfortable, similarly to Taurus Moons. As they have Venus as their rulers, this similarity makes sense. For Libra, this is intellectual as well. Pleasant, yet intellectual conversation makes Libra moons feel nurtured.

Moon in Scorpio: These natives have incredibly powerful, passionate, and sensitive emotional souls. Their need to express their emotions is particularly pronounced, and as such, a space where they feel they can be vulnerable is crucial. Naturally, these natives are reserved with emotional expression, and some patience and a lot of kindness goes a long way. A listening ear is comforting.

Moon in Sagittarius: Ruled by the planet Jupiter, Sagittarius as any sort of influence will impart a desire for expansion, change, and adventure. With the emotions ruled by Sagittarius, what results is a person who loves the novel and loves to discover new things. Lots of space to roam and explore is the top priority for these moon natives, and the ideal friend or loved one will want to go on journeys right along with them.

Moon in Capricorn: Diligence and thoughtfulness define Capricorn, and these qualities will come very naturally to those who have their natal Moon in the earthy sign. Respect is one of the most important things for Capricorn, followed by patience. As an Earth sign, the physical space should be a focus. A clean, well-organized home where there is potential for all sorts of activities productive and playful will help Capricorn work hard and play hard.

Moon in Aquarius: Ruled by both Saturn traditionally and Uranus in the modern day, Aquarius is an enigmatic sign. With the emotional core vibrating on this level, the native will need freedom to express their unique ideas while also having someone to talk to about them. Aquarius is a very compassionate sign, but they are hesitant to get their own hands wet on the water from their urn. Again, respect is essential.
