I finally sat down and watched Love, Simon. To me, it was like taking a bus back in time to when i was in high school trying my very hardest not to seem or act gay. Every single day was a struggle. Every day I would get up and and put on my face, put on my armor, take a deep breath and pray that everything would go well, that there wouldn’t be any slip ups on my part, no hint or clue of my deepest, darkest secret. I would make sure never to stare too long at a guy I liked, I made sure I’d act as “macho” or “masculine” as I could, I’d tense up every time the conversation would turn to someone talking about a cute guy. I would freak if someone asked me what I thought or if some other guy put their arm around me to mess around. Every day was a battle, a dark battle within myself. Those memories came back to life today as I was watching the movie and at the same I thought about everything I’ve learned since then, everything I’ve been through and seen. I’m a better person for it. I’m alive and I’m happy and I’m strong. Being gay is a part of who I am, it’s not a weakness it’s my strength! I can share that strength and that love with those around me! With those I care about the most in this world. I suggest that everybody watch this movie!
