Even after the defeat of Neferet and the death of Kalona she still couldn’t help but get caught up in the memories of them. Even now when she was teaching her class and they were going over Nyx’s consort, which they had learned was Kalona and not his twin brother Erebus like they had thought they knew. Mostly it was Kalona who lingered on her mind. A part of her which she had blocked off from Stark so he couldn’t go into his jealous frenzy.

A sigh left her and it was the chuckling of students, kid her age basically, that had drawn her from her mood. “That’s it for today! Remember your paper is due at the end of the week. Stay safe and blessed be.” Moments later the bell rang and students where shuffling out to go to their next class. She could hear the mummers of some students reciting her blessed be back and once the last student was out and the door was closed she fell to her seat.

Teaching…wasn’t what she thought she would be doing at 18. Relaxing deeper into her chair eyelids flickered shut in exhaustion and that’s when the memories over came her of a certain winged immortal.

It was the icy touch and his smooth words, his soft hands and broken heart, his wide welcoming smile and promise of himself to her and only her. Eyes shot open and Zoey couldn’t help but growl in irritation. The immortal…well no longer immortal didn’t love her. He loved Nyx but why then did he keep invading her thoughts. “If he could just fucking show up that would be great!” She spoke sarcastically into the open air.

Seconds later a smooth silky voice spoke and her heart pouded painfully against her chest. “All you have to do is ask my Zoey.”

And there he was in all his glory. Still surprisingly her and causing her to forget the previous frustration with him. Desire swirled in her and she knew that the silence between them suddenly was her fault. She called, he answered, though nothing could be said for all of her wants were wrong. She agreed to walk a path with Nyx in her heart. Claiming him wouldn’t be doing what she had promised the moment she found out about her Goddess.

Solo missions were typically supposed to be easy. Of course, not everything went to plan on this outing.  It was supposed to be simple, but a well aimed poison coated blade made things complicated. He had been alive long enough to be far more than well acquainted with how fickle luck could be. Not that he believed in such things.

His unfortunate luck was the least of his worries, though. While he was able to neutralize a good portion of the poison coursing through his system , he wasn't able to rid himself of all of it. The amount left wouldn't kill him, but it was going to make it hard for him coupled with the fact that he was already feeling the effects of the toxin before managing to purify the toxins.

Such was a drawback of having five hearts instead of one. Poison coursed through his veins that much quicker. He was honestly lucky he had realized what had happened sooner rather than later and finished the fight before things turned against his favor.

Kakuzu felt like his limbs were weighed down by heavy shackles as he all but collapsed with his back against a tree. It wasn't the most secluded place but he couldn't find the strength to go farther. He could feel one of his hearts inside him stumble over itself and struggle to regain rhythm. "Don't you dare," he growled out to the organ as though it could hear and follow his orders.  He was in no condition to find another heart to replace it if it decided to fail.
