bendis dehumanizes damian. once damian is revealed to be in the future, everyone repeatedly tells jon to “put him back”, like he’s an unwanted grocery item that needs to be returned

he is also called an ‘it.’

damian is called “baby hitler.” theres a whole lot to unpack here but im just gonna throw the whole thing out

but it’s also worth mentioning that damian is jewish (even though dc the cowards haven’t confirmed it.) as bruce himself is jewish as his mother martha was jewish (considering her brother was)

he is implied to turn evil in the future (yet again. sigh)

jon has to beg for medical care so damian doesn’t die / get even more injured, which is eventually administered by brainiac 5. as seen by the above, brainiac is the sole individual that stands up for him, treats him like a human, and feels empathetic towards him (personally to me this implies that no one would have helped him if not for brainiac. also, wouldn’t it be logical if they all had bio patches - aka the cure for what screwed w damian - because jon was screwing around in the future? they didn’t know for sure that he wouldn’t collapse despite his half Kryptonian dna because he is also half human)

saturn girl mind-rapes damian by forcing her way into his mind and removing his memories as well as makes him fall unconscious. (she also does this to a villain and attempts to do so to several others)

why this is bad: “It’s a way of talking about irl assualt. It captures the horror, the pain, and the feelings of victimization.” it normalizes irl assualt and is handled in a truly awful way by a white cishet man who’s dealt with other sensitive topics in an insulting and demeaning way as well

jon is extremely ooc - before bendis, he would have completely flipped if anyone talked, treated, or hurt damian that way. (ex: talia holding damian hostage, superboy red and blue, the space jail incident...)
