The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) is proud to host a comprehensive retrospective exhibition of work by legendary Los Angeles artist Frank Romero, encompassing over 50 years of the artist’s career. Dreamland: A Frank Romero Retrospective is the first solo exhibition of a Chicano artist at MOLAA.
Born in East Lost Angeles in 1941, Frank E. Romero is one of the most iconic L.A. artists of our time. As the last practicing artist of the Los Four art collective, Dreamland recounts his life’s journey through paintings, sculptures, prints, and ceramics.
This career retrospective explores Romero’s robust urban vocabulary steeped in an eclectic mapping of the city’s cultural terrain. Dreamland: A Frank Romero Retrospective celebrates the artist's lifelong fascination with city lore and, through his perspective, explores the confluence of American pop culture, Latin American heritage, and the Chicano experience.

"Chevy Lowrider" was inspired by the lowrider cars seen along the way home as Frank Romero passed by Broadway and Ave 20 in Los Angeles. Gilbert "Magu" Luján - Artist by Barefoot Productions "Not being an artist is unimaginable" via Wikipedia: Gilbert "Magú" Luján (October 16, 1940 – July 24, 2011) was a well known and influential Chicano sculptor, muralist and painter. He founded the famous Chicano collective Los Four that consisted of artists Carlos Almaraz, Beto de la Rocha, Frank Romero and Judithe Hernandez. Mr. Luján was born in French Camp, California, near Stockton, to parents of Mexican and indigenous ancestry from West Texas. From 1976-1980, Luján taught at the La Raza Studies Department at Fresno City College becoming department chair 1980. During 2005, he took on a position as art professor at Pomona College, one of the seven prestigious Claremont Colleges. CAM: One of our greats we lost last year.
