my biggest problems with the fear street: prom queen
before I get into this, I wanna say that I didn’t hate the movie. I had fun with it for what it was! these are just my thoughts and opinions
First and foremost—who on EARTH thought it would be a good idea to have it take place in 1988?! it makes absolutely zero sense that there would have been a massacre at shadyside high school less than ten years before the events of the first film. josh would have been all over that! they should have made it post-1994 because otherwise there’s no reason josh wouldn’t have it pinned up and his conspiracy board. this point especially stands since the post-credit scene suggests that the goode’s were behind what happened.
onto the messy ass post-credit scene: so the implication (at least to me) is that the goode’s were behind the massacre since tiffany’s mother’s blood formed the witch’s mark. if that was the case, why were the falconer’s all lucid? every other killer possessed by the goode’s was shown to be almost zombie-like. all three of the falconer’s are lucid and seemingly aware of what they’re doing. it just seemed like a sloppy way of trying to add a tie-in to the original trilogy, but ultimately it makes zero sense and makes the already messy plot that much more convoluted.
WHERE WERE THE LESBIANS?! these movies are built on lezzing out so I don’t wanna hear any push back against this especially when megan was very clearly a dyke.
there should have been a trilogy. sorry but these movies don’t really work as one-offs. one of the biggest appeals to the original trilogy was that we got time to know and love the characters over a period of multiple movies. when you have a story with this many characters, you need multiple movies. this movie throws a lot of characters at you at once and it doesn’t leave room for a lot of development or exploration of motives or relationship dynamics.
