Xar’s mother died giving birth to him. Looter would’ve loved her a lot, and he might’ve wanted to shove all his grief onto someone. So he started to resent the very person who ‘killed’ her.

Oooof.... Given the historical time period, this sounds eerily plausible. Childbirth was really, really dangerous. This is such an angsty concept, I kind of love it.

Looter is 16, which would have made him 3 when Xar was born, so he would not have remembered her. However, he probably heard about her and her death from other people. Encanzo is not good enough of a parent to ensure that Looter grew up with a more child-friendly version of events.

And Looter is a popular, charismatic boy. Throughout his childhood, he probably visited the homes of his classmates and noticed that most of them had mothers. I bet the interaction with wizard parents who were loving and involved in their children's lives made the absence of a mother hurt a lot. Looter would see other wizard children come home to parents who hugged their children, told bedtime stories and made jokes. Encanzo is not a doting father who is always there for his sons, but Looter could never be mad at him! His father was a king, of course he is not like normal wizard fathers! No, he would have been mad at Xar instead.
