Corn is over 10,000 years old! This cereal plant comes from a wild plant known as "teosinte" - the Balsas teosinte was domesticated in Mexico (and it still grows there today!). Humans selectively bred the wild teosinte with smaller grains to get a modern day product. Corn is not only used for human food. It is also used to feed livestock, as biofuel, and is also a raw material. Corn has now spread all over the world. It is one of the main crops produced by the United States and is often considered to be a food staple.
