New hobby alert!

I used to love archery as a youth and thanks to @blumineck and his excellent videos, I have wanted to get back into it for a while. I'm old enough to just buy my way back into the sport, but it's far too easy to spend money and then not commit, (which is why our basement is full of our kids discarded hobbies) and I've found that making a thing focuses my mind enough to really commit to it.

So, as my philosophy in life has always been that if I can understand the mechanics of how to do a thing, then I can (usually) do it myself, and so I have been making myself a board bow.

Yesterday I started roughing out the handle. Now I have it feeling comfortable in my hand I can start extending the shaping and then onto winding the bowstring, filing in the string nocks and then making a tiller tree. The problem is that it is so much fun, that the half hour I set myself to start roughing turned into an hour and half and I missed my run with friends. Totally worth it.
