This is one of my favorite spots along the Discovery Trail on the Long Beach Peninsula. It's a weathered skeleton of a subadult male gray whale (Eschrichtius robustus) that washed up dead on the beach in 1990. Not a whole lot left, but it's popular with the tourists. Caught a nice picture of it (and a whole bunch of invasive European beach grass) as the sun was preparing to set last night.
Take it all in... close your eyes and imagine yourself here in this moment. Waves crashing, seagulls flying overhead, children running through the sand, sounds of their giggles in the silence of the sunset.
