While researching #logginghistory in the #PacificNorthwest, my daughter @millicentsramsey and my dad Charley poked around this old, giant #wigwamburner in Philomath, Oregon. They were made illegal in the 1970s due to #airpollution. There were old ashes inside that have been carved into interesting formations from years of rain water coming through the mesh top, and eventually covered in moss. Scroll to the end and let us know if these bones we found could be human. 😵💀 (at Philomath, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/B971o2jpeiX/?igshid=1trpbg3808d48

It's #TimberTuesday!
How did they transport long logs down from the mountains in the good ol' days? Not very easily, to say the least!
This photo appeared in the Nov. 6, 1968 issue of the Campbell River. Courier newspaper with the following caption: Logs from Campbell River on Vancouver Island, BC, heading for Osaka, Japan as part of British Columbia Pavilion at 1970 Exposition. Logs were taller than an eight story building (80-105 feet). They were cut by MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. Copper Canyon Division.

The Willingdon Beach trail starts right beside Willingdon Beach Campsite in Powell River, one of the final stops of the Sunshine Coast before embarking on the second ferry to the farther stretch from the mainland. The trail has been there since the 1920s ever since the logging rail roads were listed. The PR Forestry Heritage Society have maintained the trail with informative signs that detail the logging history as well as examples of historical equipment that would have been used over the century. The diverse coastal weather and abundant rain has ensured the presence of mystical natural phenomena and rich vegetation that is unique to the Sunshine Coast. #willingdonbeachtrail #logginghistory #hiking #sunshinecoast #roundtheworldmagazine #bc #canada #history #willingdonbeach #powellriver #roadtrip #nature #rainforest (at Willingdon Beach) https://www.instagram.com/p/CWfodA_sNSb/?utm_medium=tumblr
