FINALLY went to the library and got my name changed in their system. The librarian was an absolute sweetheart. I don't know if I was passing or just because my name had changed from something super feminine to more masculine sounding but without hesitation she was like "would you like to change your pronouns as well?" and I just stared at her because I didn't even know that was a thing (it doesn't show up on my end in my account settings and such).
She looked at me and my dumbfounded look and was like "we have you down as female and she/her, would you prefer it to say male and he/him?"
And when I tell you the euphoria of that moment.
I, of course, said "It says female on my birth certificate."
To which she said, "Who cares. Which do you want on your account?"
And I said, "Male. He/Him. Thank you so much."
And she just smiled and was like, "Of course. We just want things to be correct."
*screams into the euphoria void*
Where I live there are like 7 or 8 libraries in our library system and I only ever go to this specific one because 1) it's closest to my house but also 2) they are so sweet and inclusive. And this experience has made me appreciate the people who work there a million times more.
SIDE NOTE:
I have had conversations with this librarian and two others who work at this library regarding LGBTQIA+ manga and books and have gushed over the characters. I just love them.
Afternoon at: Keats House & Library
After many years of not having one (since I was a kid), I've finally got a library card. I've had it for just over a week, and already I've borrowed a handful of audiobooks (listened to one of them), put holds on some eBooks, checked out the books on the shelves, and made use of the study space. And it's all free. FREE.
Folks, we must protect libraries at all costs. They are wonderful places full of magic... And books (okay, so magic and books are the same thing, but you know what I mean).
