Tropical Trash – Southern Indiana Drone Footage (National Waste Products)
So many bands never make it past a couple singles before fizzling out or the members moving on to other projects. I remember getting the first couple Tropical Trash singles and thinking they were far to weird and volatile sounding to possibly make it further than what laid in my hands at that time. Their sound was, as simply put as can be, weird and entirely unpredictable. Well, fast forward to present day and the band has accumulated a few more singles and now this LP, which would mark their second full-length. During that period, the band has remained weird for sure, but now they are weird and, dare I say, tuneful? Their last album UFO Rot was a fantastic slice of bizarro noise-rock stomp that really hinted at no such thing, but Southern Indiana Drone Footage is remarkably well produced and the group has aimed their eccentricities at the downtrodden/ominous side of post-punk this go around, that occupies a similar territory to that of Spray Paint. Tropical Trash prove they are nearly equals at drawing up a grim picture with their lyrics, which is something that hadn't really emerged in much of their past material, however they may inch themselves ever so closer by allowing the rooted baked spontaneity of their humble beginnings to seep in and fill it out further. It's an advantage they surely have and know when/where to deploy it throughout the record. It's definitely neat to see and hear how these fellas have evolved from loose noisy fuckery to a much more calculated approach. Tropical Trash – Leather Charm (stream) BUY IT!
