Hello! I really enjoyed playing Best Surved Cold. I'm happy because there are so many attractive characters in BSC. I've also played the LNLC demo, and I'm excited to think about meeting new and old friends when game is released. I have some questions. I think there are a lot of characters wearing gloves in BSC. Is there a character with a reason for that? I'm using a translator, so I think my sentence would be very strange. I would be happy if you could understand with a warm heart♡
Thank you for your sweet message! I'm very excited for you guys to see all the returning characters from BSC too, hehe
For most characters in BSC, the gloves are mostly a visual indicator of them being more withdrawn, slower to trust or to lay their true selves bare, or not fully able to relax in the bar setting. Hugo, for instance, is never 100% at ease, always in work mode on some level... For Olivia and Maria I think it's more about them keeping a bit of distance, of not readily revealing their true feelings.
For Sandra, Hugo and Peter specifically there's an element of professionalism to it, of course. Not leaving evidence at an illegal establishment and all that... Though, for Peter in particular, I think it's mostly about covering up the burn scars on the back of his hands - which is why he still wears them in LNLC. They're probably a little off-putting to look at, and I imagine he doesn't like signs of his past mistreatment to be so readily apparent to anyone and everyone.

So, the bsc universe has an alternate-history setting and all the countries have different names, but we can still tell what they’re based on. How did you come up with the alternate names? (Rusalka is such a cool one!) Were there any versions you ended up not choosing? I imagine we’ll get to know even more countries in the full version of lnlc!
And just for my personal headcanons, what is Italy called there?👀
Most of the names are either based on specific regions, historical names for countries / geographical areas, or just... a word in that language that communicates the idea. For example: Tsara is the way you pronounce ţara, meaning 'country' in romanian. Albion is an old name for Great Britain, etc. I don't know about the thought process for all of them as my co-writers Josh and Tom were responsible for most of them, but at least for my writing process I usually had a little short list and went by what I figured most readers would intuitively understand without having to google stuff hahah.
Naturally, there will be a few more in LNLC indeed. For example: Ram's family is originally from "Bharat", a pretty obvious one as names go. The BSC-verse equivalent to Italy is actually mentioned by Lottie in one of her dialogues in the demo - it's Vitulia, which comes from Viteliú, the old root word for Italy.
excited and ready to put your boy in the pear wiggler and distress him heavily :D
Highly controversial take from me but I love James too much to condemn him to be wriggled I fear
He does have a very wriggle-able personality, I admit, but I can't take his dignity from him like that... the man is two apples tall. he is already fighting an uphill battle
I dragged my 31-year old ass back to tumblr because this is apparently where the bsc fandom is. What have ya'll done to me!? - just kidding, of course, I love seeing the love this game gets. Played through part of the demo yesterday and (spoiler alert) I cried. In the DEMO! Congrats on the hard work, can't wait for the full thing.
Welcome to tumblr! It means a lot to know you migrated here just for our little fandom haha, that's so sweet.
I'm super glad to hear you enjoyed your time with the demo, and that it moved you like that. That's such encouraging feedback to get!I can't wait for people to be able to experience the full thing, we have so much left in store... Not all of it sad, I promise! hahaha
Hi Dins! I just recently discovered that I can send questions to you here, so I rushed right over! My English isn't very good, so I'm really sorry if this message sounds a bit weird… 🥺💦
I love Bukovie and I love you too! (≧∇≦) Thank you all so much for making BSC and LNLC. I'm so excited that I'm not even planning to blink before LNLC officially releases! (lol)
I know the game still needs some time in the shaker, so if it's not too much trouble, I just wanted to ask a tiny, tiny question: can we expect a new trailer anytime soon? 🥺👉👈 Seeing it would give me the strength to keep waiting a little longer!
Lastly, would it be okay to ask about James's food preferences, without causing any trouble? ( • ̀ω•́ )✧ Are there any foods he absolutely loves or hates? (Please just ignore this part if it's not convenient to answer, I'm so sorry…)
Anyway, I'll be cheering you on!
💞💞(●´∀`●)💞💞
Aww, thank you for being so sweet! It makes me so happy to see people so excited for the game to come out. Asks like this really make my week.
I'm afraid the game indeed needs "a bit more time in the shaker", as you put it. The initial response to the demo has been wonderful, but we also want to make sure we give the full game the proper attention it needs instead of rushing it out the door. The game has a lot more content than the original despite being made by a smaller team, so it'll take time :')
(If only we could include everything people have asked... But then it'd take even longer to be made hahah)
Unfortunately I can't promise a new trailer in the near future, they're surprisingly resource intense to make, but I'm going to see whether it'd be possible to release some material from the full game on the official blog soon - including reveals for characters from beyond the demo, and maybe some fun interactions from later cases!
As for the James question... The game will bring it up in places, but considering his vibe it's probably not a spoiler to say he's not much of a foodie. I think he's the type that dislikes anything greasy, fried or overly heavy. He's more of a snacker than someone who eats big meals. A big "grapes and crackers" type of guy. In other words, I am 100% projecting my own love of pickled herring onto this man, and nobody can stop me.

Okay, I came flying here the moment I saw you mention early concepts because I've been wanting to ask about them for a while, but I wasn't sure if you're allowed to show them haha
So, can we see any early concepts of Reece or Killian?👁️ Did either of them go through any drastic changes or did they just click right away? I feel like Reece could have so many cool outfits that suit them!
I'm not allowed to show material on my personal here, so I'll use my response for now to ask in response: do you mean for Best Served Cold, or for Last Night, Last Call? Because they went through outfit designs for both of course!
For BSC I'm not sure I'd get the permission to share content that old, though it might be fun to try to doodle some of their old outfit and hairstyle concepts heheh
Hello, dinky (I’m not sure what to call you, so I’ll just go with that for now—please forgive me if it’s not appropriate). This is my first time using Tumblr. Also, I’m from China, and my English isn’t great, so please forgive any mistakes I make.
I’m a huge fan of Best Served Cold, and as soon as the demo for the sequel, Last Night Last Call, was released, I gave it a try right away. It was so great to see familiar old friends and a bunch of new characters with such distinct personalities! I’m really looking forward to the full release of this game, and I’m so grateful to you for creating them! You are so talented!
My favorite character in this game is John Lacy—he’s sensitive and empathetic. His melancholy and gentleness are captivating. It’s so great to see him in LNLC! He seems to be doing much better! I’m really looking forward to the story between him and his adopted son, Teddy!
I have two questions I’d like to ask you: First, could you tell me more about the story and interactions between Olivia and John? To be honest, I’m kind of shipping them. Olivia is a charming beauty. I feel like she has a special kind of care for John. Even though she’s always saying bad things about him and they’ve had arguments, she quickly noticed when John was feeling down and asked if he’d like to talk to her. In the end, Olivia joined the choir, saying, “Although John isn’t exactly tone-deaf, it’ll definitely be better with me on board.” This awkward yet caring attitude is exactly the kind of emotion we East Asian girls love the most! Also, Olivia once said she felt the power of a goddess within herself, and I think that makes a lot of sense. Olivia is passionate, charming, and compassionate; she can maintain an optimistic outlook even in difficult situations. She possesses a powerful strength all her own. This complements John perfectly; he needs someone to teach him how to stay optimistic, how to appreciate the beauty in life, and how to interact with others. After choosing “Your community hasn’t given up on you,” John will acknowledge that Olivia and Feng are important people in his life. One day, Father Lacy will realize that the goddess he’s been searching for—the one who can give him strength—has been right by his side all along. Salvation literature is truly amazing!
My second question is: I saw that Father Lacy is in charm form in the store. I’m wondering if I can purchase it from China? Will location be a problem to buy it?
Thank you for your patience. I’m really looking forward to your reply. I’ll keep following your work! Love you!❤️
Hahah, Dinky is fine! Though, if it feels a bit too cutesy... my usual online name is 'Dins', so that's also an option.
I'm so glad you've enjoyed the demo so far! And I'm always super happy to meet a fan of John, he really is so near and dear to my heart.
I loved reading your thoughts on Olivia and John, because you're totally right about the both of them imo! I'd be lying if I said I haven't thought about their dynamic before myself hahah, it's such a cute ship. I think I once drew them together even, though I have no clue where... But yes, I need someone to write a fic already!!
On the team we joked often about her giving the most colourful confessions in the confession box and him sitting there either flustered as all hell or questioning his life choices, depending on the day.
In BSC I think their dynamic was a bit strained because Olivia was actively coming into her own regarding her feelings about her faith and the Goddess at the same time that John was losing his faith after the loss of his father and dealing with his recent alcoholism. I think she mostly felt worry and pity for him, while he felt she didn't need him anymore... But by the end, once he's finding his footing again, I think she could be a real pillar of support for him like you say. I like to think she has a fair bit of concern and care for him, and he does Not know how to act when receiving genuine warmth from people hehe
To answer your second question, as far as I know ACGoods (the platform that handles the shipping) ships to China, no problem! I did start an Olivia charm a while ago that I forgot to finish, if you'd like I can try to add her on the platform as well so you could have the both of them
thinking about that time you asked what you guys should do for the best served cold anniversary and i said a sequel game… little did i know my wishes would be granted
so while i’m here… i’m curious, were you originally planning to make a sequel since the beginning, or did it come from all the love for best served cold?? 🤔
so excited to meet the new cast fully in the full version 👀
Sorry about taking so long to reply to this one! Rambly answer below. But, in general, I'm glad to know you're looking forward to the new game!! I can't wait for you all to meet the rest of the cast, too.
I already pitched the sequel's story around a month or two after the game was released, but I didn't really expect a green light until more time had passed and we had an idea of how well the game was doing. BSC is kind of a small game with a small audience, so it's always a gamble... but people asking for a sequel really helped, and allowed us to kick things off near the end of the summer.
BSC was our first ever exploration into narrative games, and it's one of those titles where I felt we had only just about figured out what we were doing by the time production was almost over. There's a lot of things I'm not happy about, looking back... And I felt like there was so much more we could do with this world, and a lot we could do to improve.
It's a little selfish perhaps, but I personally really wanted to do a sequel so I'd get to switch from "out of my depth" to "firing on all cylinders" mode for once instead of casting everything we'd learned aside and jumping into something entirely new yet again hahah. So far I think (I hope) it's been paying off - I feel like LNLC is shaping up to be a stronger game than its predecessor (though which story you prefer will be personal taste, of course).
