Riding The High.
Riding the high and using it to your advantage. This usually happens when you have a higher self-esteem than normal, because you feel like you’re going to kick ass and break shit. And I mean that, because you feel untouchable. You’re focused on what you want and what you think you can get. Very little stress need be involved.
Try something you fear. This is a weight lifting blog so I’m going to reference lifting weights obviously. Every weightlifter, new or elite, is going to have the small thought of possibly not getting the lift. There’s so much functional movements involved that one little thing could throw off the entire lift. Feet position, grip, arm width, shoulder position, knee position, posterior-chain engagement, breathing, etc... even the thought process.
Believing you can lift that bar and throwing that weight over head gives you a better chance at completing the lift you want. If you’re a person who’s working on a pull-up, believe that you’re going to get your first pull-up. Want that pull-up. Because soon enough more and more pull-ups are going to come, and then you’re going to find yourself setting max pull-ups. It happens. Trust me.
It’s easy to get discouraged. When you feel the discouragement, take a step back and tell yourself you want this. “You want this and you only want this.” Put yourself in a bubble and do not let discouragement in. Chances are higher when you return back to the bar with a positive mindset.
