So I know they're in different timelines, but it really seems like this series is gonna have some overlap with Heatwaves. (I still haven't read it yet but just post- True Colors Chenrich band life. I'm really liking the comics, but it does make me excited to read the new book once I'm done.
The thing with Steph in the last issue wasn't as big as I thought it'd be, but it was still pretty impactful. Just like a super on-brand in-character set of events for her. I know "Steph's Story" (the book) isn't in the same timeline as this comic but I think a lot of her arc from that book was shown in this one. Super glad she has Alex to ground her and that she's learned a bit from her past mistakes.
Lily's arc is coming to a close and that's the bit I don't want to spoil too much but it's good too. Like I mentioned her powers mirror Alex's nicely and her story is VERY Life is Strange imo.
...and the Life is Strange cringe moments have a new addition:
I think it's really up there with "Go Fuck Your Selfie", Max "Wowzers" Caufield's "Ready for the Mosh Pit, Shaka Brah", and Chloe "Hella" Price's "It's nice Rachel we're having".
I think I expected more of this comics after all that happened with the previous series. But this comic seems like it's just gonna be a short series and that's it so I'm gonna try to have fun with it rather than raise my expectations too much. Though Steph seems to be going through something which does seem like it could go somewhere.
With that said though, this is a fun one. We got a Chloe & Kate flashback from Steph, which was nice.
Lily's powers seem very similar to Alex's which is fine, but honestly I did want more. Mostly because I want to know more about how powers work in the Life is Strange world, like who gets them and why, like big picture worldbuilding... which hasn't ever been what Life is Strange is about. But after almost a decade, seeing those branches connect at some point would be cool.
I finally got the print run of Forget-Me-Not and also the new Heatwaves book. I'm gonna read the comics first since they'll be easier to go through but I'm not exactly sure where the are in timeline order.
After reading the prelude explanation I think Heatwaves might technically be first chronologically but in a different timeline so it's fine if I read the book after the new comics.
But anyway...
---
So the Forget-Me-Not story as a whole takes place in a Life is Strange timeline where Max never came back to Arcadia Bay and also Chloe and Rachel made it out to California. It follows Alex and Steph after this timeline's version of the True Colors where they end up together in a traveling band (which was my ending so that's hype).
Honestly I think it's a little weird that it takes place in a completely different timeline to the previous comics but I'm still so in for more LiS comics. And it's been so long since I read the last comic, that it taking place in a different timeline, makes it more accessible which I enjoy.
Amberprice and Chenrich let's go!!!
---
I don't think it's too much of a spoiler since the covers showed her already but yeah we got a new character with powers. Her name is Lily and we don't get to much of her in the first issue but it's definitely a nice set-up comic and just a fun little return to the series. I love seeing these characters, like regardless of context. <3
I'm super excited for what's next but I don't want to rush through them so I'm just gonna read one a day for the next few days.
How is Max a coward in the comics? I haven't read them, just curious
Hmmmmm, well, the comic itself makes no sense.
Apparently, the comic was planned for only the first 4 issues that came out between 2018 and 2019. The way they ended showed that Max lived through so many time jumps, because she didn't belong to that timeline where the comic began. Supposedly that's why she goes to the "who belongs" line.
But, as they were given more numbers to write, they no longer gave continuity to that idea they had proposed, and without even bothering to clarify that, they just continued with that hole in the script, implying that Max left because "she didn't wanted to deal with the guilt of her decisions" and she just left so she wouldn't fix it or think about it.
Then she looks for the idea of returning⦠just because. She just took a two-year vacation abandoning Chloe because⦠she had no idea dealing with the consequences of her actions and got people who shouldn't have gotten into trouble. The only good thing that happened was that Tristan didn't die (and Tristan is the only well done thing in the comic⦠and that's it) And the tornado of the final issues happened⦠just because.
The comic is very poorly narrated, and apparently Max only lived what she lived because she was a coward for not knowing how to deal with the fact that she killed an entire town and believes that the right thing to do is to be hypocritical by making "a memorial" with the people who died in Arcadia Bay for HER selfish decisionsā¦

Some Things I Want To Talk About In The Life Is Strange Comic: Dust
A: First of all, I love that the comics arenāt explicitly canon! I think itās nice that the series lets the fans decide the fate of their Max and Chloe after the storm, and Iām choosing to not take this comic as my personal canon since Iāve spent the last eight years making a very thought out ending for them in my head. However, this is a nice continuation, and I donāt mind at all this being a reality in the Life Is Strange multiverse!Ā
B: Iām also glad the sacrifice Chloe ending is left canon! Itās not my personal ending, but when youāre playing a choice based game I think all decisions should be equally valid!
More UndercutĀ
C: Max being compared to the dust between a butterflies flapping wings is such a great analogy in the sacrifice Arcadia ending. She decides to simply accept the butterfly effect of saving Chloe and allows it to take the town. Sheās not actively choosing to cause the storm, but is caught up in it.Ā
D: The alternative timelines were so interesting! It seems like there was one where Chloe passed in the storm considering Tammi was preforming in honor of the bay but then implied Chloe had died. That would be such a cruel fate for Max to give up everything only to loose her butterfly best friend anyway. I think we saw the worse outcome. Then thereās theĀ Grahamfield timeline where only Max and Warren survived the storm, and honestly I didnāt mind it! Their interactions were cute together, and it seems like Warren matured a lot since the storm. Though, I still hate the idea of Max giving up on Chloe and still loosing everything anyway.Ā
E: I do wish we spent more time in these timelines though. Rachel not having anything to do with Mark and finding him creepy really threw me off, and Iād like to know what changed in her life to avoid her murderer. Though it was devastating to see how quickly she brushed off Chloe dating Max to meet up with Frank, and how she brought him up like he wasnāt a big deal. It makes me think based on the dialogue that this was a reality where Rachel was hooking up with Chloe, but dating Frank, which is a fact AU Chloe seemed to be aware of. Which also sucks because that means that even after escaping Mark, Rachel is still being taken advantage of by a grow man who knew her as just a teen.Ā
F: Yet, I do love how down Rachel was to have a three-way with Max.Ā
G: I loved Chloe having the exact same expression of joy holding Rachel as she did holding Max. She loves both of her girlfriends so much. <3Ā
H: Honestly, I have mixed feeling about theĀ āChloe hasnāt had a say in what she wantsā thing. I think itās clear that main timeline Chloe is happy with Max and doesnāt regret being with her, but she still lost a lot when Rachel died and thatās never going to change. I donāt think itās fair to tell her to choose between her dead girlfriend or current girlfriend since nothing is going to change, and Chloe can hold aĀ deceased person in her heart while also loving Max. It doesnāt have to be one or the other.Ā
I: The Pricefield kiss killed me! Now we need an Amberprice one to make it even!Ā
J: Max saying that thereās a version of her out there who wasnāt able to save Chloe and is empty because of it took my heart and stomped on it. Iām guessing that Max is one to let go of Chloe and never saw the butterfly land on the coffin.Ā
K: Chloeās growth in this comic is fantastic. I like that sheās unwilling to push of all the deathās in Arcadia Bay out of mind and instead accepts them for what they are. She seems to be able to relive memories without shutting down and it was a huge growth to see her let Max go for her sake. Episode 2 of the game Chloe would fly off the handle if Max even suggested leaving her again to figure out what was happened, so itās cool to see Chloe understand that Max loves her and will return to her.Ā
L: I like the idea of Max and Chloe just going with the flow after sacrificing Arcadia Bay. Theyāve both learned that they canāt control things and instead of getting worked up over something going wrong they just accept it. It was nice to see Chloe going from describing Maxās power as a toy to telling her to not rewind over the truck.Ā
M: I find Maxās photo avoidance interesting. Max takes pictures so she can see the world without participating in it, so her reluctance to take any around Arcadia Bay represents her unwillingness fully accept what happened. At least thatās how I read it!Ā
N: Seeing Arcadia Bay rebuilt hit me more then anything else. It didnāt seem right, and in a weird way it seems like Arcadia Bay should stay destroyed instead of quickly rebuilt. Plus, all the buildings looked so modern and unlike the Arcadia Bay weāve grown to know. It felt like a mockery and I hated it.Ā
