Best Fertiliser for Cactus and Succulents đľ
Cactus and succulents are tough plants, but they still need the right nutrients to grow properly.
The mistake many people make is using a strong all-purpose fertiliser that is too high in nitrogen. While nitrogen helps leafy growth, too much of it can make cactus and succulents grow soft, stretched and weak.
For these plants, the goal is not fast growth. The goal is compact, healthy, strong growth.
That is why a low-nitrogen cactus and succulent fertiliser is usually the better choice.
CompleteGrow Cactus & Succulent Plant Food uses a 2-7-7 NPK ratio, which means:
N 2 â low nitrogen to avoid soft overgrowth P 7 â supports roots and flowering K 7 â supports plant strength and resilience + trace elements â for complete plant nutrition
This makes it suitable for cactus, succulents, jade, aloe, echeveria, haworthia and other dry-climate potted plants.
Fertiliser should also be used at the right time. Feed cactus and succulents during active growth, usually in the warmer months, and reduce feeding when growth slows down in winter.
A simple routine is:
Feed once or twice monthly during active growth, or use a lighter dose more often if the plant is being watered regularly.
Just remember: fertiliser cannot fix poor drainage, overwatering or low light. Cactus and succulents still need a free-draining mix, bright light and careful watering.
